About Me

Djinn alias Ginette Bertrand, painter and composer--www.guyhamelin.com/djinn
Try the BEST MySpace Editor and MySpace Backgrounds at MySpace Toolbox !A seasoned composer and graduate of Laval and Montreal Universities, Ginette Bertrand is also a self-taught painter and has been a vibrant contributor to the worlds of fine arts and stage creation for more than twenty-five years.( You can listen her original music she composed on the left section of this page just click on My music box) In 1993, following a joint project with visual artists, she sets up a sound installation at Saint-Jerome’s Museum du Vieux Palais. Since then, she applies her creativity to both music and painting, rejecting any "specialist" label and pursuing collaborations with artists of various fields. For over ten years, she was a close collaborator of star choreographer Pierre-Paul Savoie, penning the music of numerous dance and multimedia stage shows, including Poles and Bagne that have been acclaimed throughout Canada, Europe and the USA. Her sound palette draws on ancient and oriental modes and so do her paintings, imbued with Orientals and a personal vision of rupestral art. Ginette Bertrand has had a number of personal and collective exhibitions in Montreal, all around Quebec province and oversea in China with Best Painting honours. In June 2000, the CONSEIL de la CULTURE des LAURENTIDES honoured her with the GRAND PRIX du Conseil des Arts et des Lettres of Quebec for the remarkable quality of her musical catalog and for her involvement in regional culture. This allowed her to realize the long-term project of setting up a network of Salon Expo-Concerts. A first event of this kind, "Expo-Concert chez Djinn", was organized in October 2000 (with guest artist Francois Laforest). Since then, Ginette Bertrand has been signing her pseudonym DJINN to her graphic artwork. Her interests are shared between music, painting and world travel. She is always working on new projects that seek to decompartmentalize the art world and contribute to culture's regional accessibility. Her personal itinerary combining music and fine arts and her growing involvement in humanitarian causes draw her to use uncommon venues, set up innovative events and involve herself in projects that generally support our world's dispossessed.
