About Me

"The painting is like a thread that runs through all the reasons for the other things that make one's life." ~ G. O'Keeffe, 1962
JINGLEFISH ART (see www.Jinglefish.com ) is my young enterprise of orignal art transformed into greeting cards and small prints. This space gives Jinglefish room to splash around, and me a place for the other stuff I do, which means the dabble of drawings, landscapes, human figure, abtracts, and other creative interests, while exploring a variety of mediums.
I've always loved art, and my first exhibited work was painted when I was 5 years old. Over the years I'd taken various classes or workshops and learned as much as I could for what I thought was just a hobby. But it wasn't enough. The biggest step came when I decided that I couldn't consider myself to be a "real art student" if I didn't take figure drawing classes. That challenge sparked a series of events that led to more intense study, my first visit to New York City, and a better appreciation of the arts in all its forms. Eclectic, seemingly divergent elements actually fit better together than I thought.
The Jinglefish business venture all started with holiday cards I'd make for friends, then more people started getting them. Eventually, I came up with the idea of a poor little fishy with antlers and bells tied to it's head. "Jingle Fish" was born. But then, it wasn't quite enough.
Swoosh up a few years and I'm back at college taking art classes for actual grades. That was unnerving suddenly getting all pressured and graded again but this time in something so personal as Art. Ugh. Again, I didn't expect the next turns and twists, or how much I would be pushed to grow in the process. It was tiring, and a jolt for someone still holding a full time day job. Though I wouldn't have traded that experience for anything. So there I was and here I am now.
Music: Dig it. Gotta have it. Being a big music fan also means music is needed to keep me going and is a requisite part of my studio and life generally. Music and visual art are inseparable. I support public broadcasting and KEXP 90.3 FM (Seattle) in particular. The DJ's program their own shows, actually play listener requests and have not been indicted in the rash of payola scandals. Love to support the bands who play music because it's what they must do. Music has always inspired and given me a safe place to be. There is nothing like working on a painting or wandering a museum with a fabulous soundtrack blasting in your ears.
That's really all I have to babble on about right now. Please let me know if you have any comments or feedback. Thanks for stopping by.
