SPRING 2008 TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
Adriano Adewale Group are on UK tour from 26th March - 18th May 2008 visiting the east of England, Wales, the South West, the South East and London.
“Music starts and finishes with silence. From beginning to end there is much to be seen and experienced. Our music varies in shape, weight and colour. It takes you on a journey where sounds uncover intrinsic identities of simplicity and beauty, translating images, words and movement into music.” – Adriano Adewale.
Rooted in the musical traditions of Nigeria, Angola and Brazil and infused with contemporary European classical and jazz styles, percussionist and composer Adriano Adewale’s music is a truly global fusion of musical influences.
Adriano formed the Adriano Adewale Group in 2007. The ensemble features Adriano on Percussion, Nathan Thomson on Bass and flutes, Marcelo Andrade on Saxes, flute and rabeca and Kadialy Kouyate on Kora. The group's debut album SEMENTES (Seeds), produced by Gilad Atzmon, and featuring guest spots by Gilad and Antonio Forcione, will be released mid-2008. Adriano Adewale was born in Sao Paulo – Brazil.
For many years he was known as Adriano Pinto, a colonial name he received at birth. It was after his visit to Africa (Nigeria and Benin Republic) searching for his roots that he changed his name to Adriano Adewale Itauna. Respectively from the Yoruba-Nigeria and Tupi Guarani-Brazil.
He started playing drum kit after being to a party where for the first time he heard and felt the power and deepness of the drums. He could not help, but buy a set of drums next day. Three years later he began an actor’s career where he would also use his music knowledge to perform as a musician as well as composing sound tracks for theatre plays.
Meanwhile working as an actor he took piano and percussion lessons, followed by a course at the University of Sao Paulo State where he finished a degree/BA on music-percussion.
Soon after he moved to London where he rapidly started working with many musicians and teaching percussion, Adriano went on studying again, this time a Master course in Music/Performance at SOAS – London.
His first band in the UK was called Sambura, which released one album: “Cru”. Performing in various festivals and venues, Adriano was introduced to Antonio Forcione(Acclaimed Italian guitarist) and soon became part of the Antonio Forcione Quartet which has been performing all over the world.
Other great collaborators he worked with include: Jonny Phillips, Seu Jorgea, Jonathan Preiss, Seb Rochford, Monica Vasconcelos, Andy Shaperd, Tuti Moreno, Rodolfo Stroeter, Modeste Hugues, Gustavo Marques, Netsayi Chigwendere, Julia Biel, Zoe Rahman, Steve Lodder and Ronu Majumdar.
Working on partnerships with artists, he created sound tracks for: the Portuguese fine artist Monica de Miranda, the English dance company Stacked wonky and a percussion based sound track for an animation movie based on the faiy tale “The little Red Riding Hood”.
He also shared the stage with Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Tcheka(Cape Verde) and supported Cesaria Evora, Airton Moreira and Flora Purim, Jools Holland, Seu Jorge, and Boubacar Traore.
Venues include : QEH, RFH, Barbican , Apollo, Usher Hall, Olimpia(Paris), Jazz Café, Ronnie Scott, SAGE.
