About Me

John K Miles has been described as a 'powerful saxophonist' and 'sophisticated composer' by Jazz Critic John Fordham of 'The Guardian'He gained a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (UK) as a postgraduate saxophonist / flautist aged nineteen.As an instrumentalist he co led the group 'Culture Crisis' to the finals of the European Jazz Competition (1991) and subsequently released his first CD 'The Enchanter' in 1993. He has worked with a range of artists including reggae star Maxi Priest, Alan Skidmore, Geno Washington and King Salsa.He returned to The Guildhall to study classical composition and later studied screen composition at The National Film and Television School. He also has a masters degree in composition from Trinity College of Music / University of Sussex.As a composer he has scored for film and television (BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4, Channel 5 and various independent film production companies), released two solo CD's ('The Enchanter' and 'Trane Ride'), and written music for theatre, jazz groups, world music ensembles, and the classical concert hall.John has also led many creative music workshop projects, facilitating composition and performance for a range of clients. Most recently these have included The London Philharmonic Orchestra, The City of London Sinfonia, Create, Casa da Musica, ENO Baylis, The Anvil Theatre and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
