About Me

I was born in Ashdod, Israel. Ashdod is by the Med. Sea and most of our childhood revolved around the sea. My dad was a seaman and was trying to teach us things about life through spending time by the sea. How to deal with the currents, when to dive and when to try and float, getting into the rhythm of the waves, dealing with fear...I started playing the piano when I was 9. My granfather Yehuda Sharett was a Choral Conductor, Violinist Composer and Educator. I remember how he was talking to me about practising and these special relationships we have with our instruments..I remember playing with him the first movement of Bach Violin Concerto in A minor and him trying to teach me Harmony. I always enjoyed playing with other musicians and found the piano playing a bit isolating. I studied Choral Conducting and composed for Theatre and short films. I worked with Opera singers as a vocal coach and an accompanist. I conduct Vocal Ensembles in Israel and in the UK. My journey crossing over to Jazz and World music has started around eight years ago.I was always listening to Jazz but going to Brian Edwards' inspiring Jazz workshop at the Tabernacle was a turning point and that was a beginning of my new musical path. I was happy to invite Brian to record with me and the TS Ensemble my cd "Open Toes & everything". I continue composing and playing for Theatre (Ovel Theatre lately with "Yaakobi and Leidental" by Chanoch Levin). I also enjoy arranging and collaborating with other musicians. Sometimes it feels like I have been blessed having two musical lives, the first as a Choral conductor and an accompanist mainly in Classical music and the second as a composer arranger and Jazz-world pianist.Venues we play at: Jazz Cafe, South Bank Festival, National Theatre, Hackney Empire, Momo, Octave, The Ritzy, Cafe de Paris, Charlie Wright and others.Musicians I play with: Larry Bartley - Double Bass, Dudu Marques - Drums, Fulvio Sigurta - Trumpet/Flugel, Robin Fincker - Saxes, Jim Hart - Drums, Anselmo Netto and Alua Nascimento -Percussion, Kadialy Kouyate - Kora, Natalie Rozario - Cello, Juldeh Camara - Riti, Gologo, Hanif Khan - Tabla, Haider Rahman - Flute, Sandhya Sanjana - Vocals, I am planning to record soon! I don't belong to any of the Jazz tribes in London, I'm just doing my own thing..I love teaching kids and because of my journey I have been teaching improvisation and composition from the start alongside musicianship, sight-reading and interpretation. I don't like the grade exams system and I think most important is to keep the flow!
