Highly sensitive to my surroundings, I am always curious of the thoughts behind people's actions. Often, my observations and inconsistencies that surround me manifest themselves into lyrics and eventually into a song. Creating music gives me a sense of purpose and direction, a kind of sanity if you will, as well as an insatiable appetite that drives me to stretch my artistic boundaries across music forms. My original tunes combine traditional roots and contemporary music. Of course, I have been influenced by many artists including Elliot Smith, Kurt Cobain, Syd Barrett, John Lennon, Leonard Cohen, Feist, Josh Holmes, and Tom Waits.Music and writing are my passions - performing on stage in front of live audiences, well, I find absolutely euphoric. Currently, I am the lead singer, lyricist, songwriter and acoustic guitarist in a band, called 'the deadbeat dads." We have appeared in live shows at venues across Ontario and have a growing fan-base. Recently we performed at the Kingfest Music Festival (June 2007) alongside performers such as Bruce Cockburn and Jim Cuddy as part of concert series to benefit habitat for humanity., the Deadbeat Dads (name not to be taken literally), we are a folk rock trio. Our music combines the soulful melodies of folk and blues with the attack and groove of rock funk music. Dustin Braiden holds time on the four-string thumper while somtimes Dwight Schenk keeps the beat on his four-piece bash box and often adds an extra zest using his eerie vocals and mandolin.Our unique mix and catchy harmonies will have even the un-hippest square tapping his toes to the beat.
