Setting new standards in the performance of modern vocal music, the four young women of NINIWE evoke a sound world of whispering elves and booming storms with their distinctive voices. The group’s hauntingly beautiful sound interweaves ideas from classical music and jazz with avant-garde harmonies and unusual rhythms, plumbing the depths of sound and groove with a strong improvisational element. Side by side with its original compositions, NINIWE presents well-known jazz standards in a new guise as well as classical works by Dvorák, Grieg, and Kodály as part of its unique repertoire.
