Sounds Like:"The Gospel Night. Sisters & Brothers Gospel Choir Ensemble meets Cheryl Porter". A special night dedicated to American religious black music. An extraordinary show welcomed by thunderous applause in concert halls always packed with a thrilled crowd. Now this music finally becomes a cd not ot be missed. Internationally acclaimed Gospel star Cheryl Porter is the special guest of the prestigious choir Sisters and Brothers Gospel Choir Ensemble directed by Carla Baldini. The Tuscan group and the great afro-american singer bring forth a unique concert, a musical event that has all the energy and the spirituality typical of Gospel. Among the songs you will find spiritual and Gospel classics ("Wade in de Water", "Hold on"), as well as popular non-religious songs reinterpreted with Gospel spirit (like "Bridge over troubled water" by Paul Simon and "Weapons of prayer" by Mark Knopfer), and also some amazing original songs written especially for the event. An explosive mix of expressive intensity and emotional potential, a musical crescendo made of "shouting", "call and response" and a perfect "interplay" between soloists, choir and musicians. "The Gospel night" was recorded live on the 26th and 27th of March, 2007, at the Teatro degli Industri in Grosseto and mixed by Gianni Prudente, the great sound engineer that took part in albums that has made history in Italian music (Lucio Battisti, Fabrizio De Andrè, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso). It is produced and distributed by M.A.P. (Milan, www.map.it) and it was presented on Saturday, December the 8th, 2007 at the Teatro Moderno in Grosseto. Cheryl Porter, born in the homeland city of Gospel, Chicago, is today one of the most promising voices of the new generation, depicted by critics as "a wise mix of elements from Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington and Mahalia Jackson". With a rich and powerful voice deeply rooted in the "Spirituals" tradition, she worked with amazing artists such as Tito Puente, Dave Brubeck, Mariah Carey, Amii Stewart, Katia Ricciarelli, Paolo Conte and was invited to perform at the wedding of the greatest tenor in the world, Luciano Pavarotti in 2003, along with Andrea Bocelli and Bono. She has recorder more than 20 CDs of Jazz, Blues and Gospel and more than 40 singles of commercial music; she performed in 15 countries (touching North America, Europe, the Middle East, South America, the Carribeans) for a crowd of fans that becomes larger every time (www.cherylporter.net). The "Sisters and Brothers Gospel Choir Ensemble" was started in 1996 and it is a group of 16 singers accompanied by piano (Stefano Pioli), bass (Massimo Niccolai) and drums (Francesco Favilli). They performed in more than 100 concerts in theatres, squares and churches all over Italy so much as to be considered one of the most important Gospel choirs in Italy (www.sistersandbrothers.it)
