About Me

Hi i'm Mark. I love music & was brought up on a diet of Elvis Presley & country music before graduating into the depths of 1950's rock n' roll/rockabilly & beyond. I'm a drummer & went pro' with Mike Sanchez(inc 'Big town playboys)almost 14 years ago. Although i hit things for a living i'm really quite passive but am notorious for spouting rubbish when drunk & often dance like i have a muscular disorder..otherwise i'm quite normal(me thinks..)I'm still in the process of setting up this page so bear with me..

My Interests

Music,watching live' bands,playing guitar(badly),Movies,cooking,eating out,drinking!dancing,philosophy,vintage drums/drummers,blah blah..

I'd like to meet:

Just good, fun, down to earth, honest like minded folk.

Music:

I like lots of different stuff but always tend to end up clutching onto my rock n'roll roots. Elvis Presley for being the original& best. All the classic r'n'r/rockabilly guys that sprung up in his wake,Cochran,Vincent,Perkins,Holly,Joe Clay,Benny Joy,Johnny Burnette,too many to mention really! All the great black guys as well whether blues or r'n'r..little Richard,Chuck Berry(those lyrics!),Muddy Waters,Amos Milburn,Larry Williams.. 1940's/50's blues/r&b,country music,americana,early UK Rock/60's beat.1950's/60's instro's,60's garage/r&b/soul,some early ska/reggae.Jazz,big band&especially 50's/60's blue note.Swamp rock,cuban music,funk even some punk,neo rockabilly& lotsa new alt' stuff which may be roots related..or not! Roy Orbison,Buck Owens,Johnny Cash,Ricky Nelson,Everlys,Link Wray,Charlie Rich,The Shadows,Beatles,Kinks,Creedance Clearwater,Toots&the Maytels,Gram Parsons,Stooges,MC5,early Dr Feelgood,Blondie,The Cramps,Chris Isaak,Paladins,KD Lang,Lucinda Williams,legendary shack shakers,Detroit Cobras,The soledad bros',Dan Sartain,Andre'Williams,Velvetone..could go on for ever but don't worry i won't.

Movies:

So many fom different genres. I like early Brando,Robert Mitchum,James Dean,Paul Newman all those classic moody guys. Some sci-fi stuff,Forbidden Planet is a top fave.1950's/60's b-movies Adore Audrey Hepburn in breakfast at tiffanys, like the blonde bombshells Marilyn Monroe in 'Niagra',Kim Novak-Vertigo etc..Nicholas Cage,De-niro,James Stewart,Shirley Maclaine&Sophia Loren,Rita tushingham are faves.Am a dote on Brit-kitchen sink stuff like saturday night sunday morning, room at the top, angry silence, taste of honey.Norman Wisdom movies a big impact when i was a kid. Also road type movies i like..Kalafornia,wild at heart,U turn oh i could go on but you get the picture!

Television:

Not a TV person to be truthful but do like a good documentary.I thought 'Shameless' was good fun& recently quite enjoyed the re-run of 'this life'..Generally though i'd rather go out than watch telly!

Books:

Preferably biogs/auto biogs on entertainers be they musicians, actors, comedians etc i love reading their stories. One i enjoyed recently was a book called 'The bad&the beautiful' a chronicle of 50's hollywood.Lately a few Paelo Coelho books,James Ellroy'my dark places'. Love Keroac's 'on the road'.Must admit i'm a lazy reader& often known to read three books simultaneously without finishing any!

Heroes:

So many really but have to mention my fave' drummer Earl Palmer(legendary new orleans session player) for the risks he took in his career&private life which probably went against the grain of the times. Also Jet Harris original bassist with The Shadows who's had so much bad luck in his life/career but always bounces back.
