Hi. Welcome to my Myspace site.

I work as a freelance double bassist/ bass guitarist with loads of different bands doing gigs and recording sessions.

In case you don’t know me, I live in Devon, UK with my partner and baby girl. I’m originally from Worcestershire and I got to Devon via London.

I am a co-founding member of The Big Town Playboys and play double bass on all seven albums and produced the two most recent ones.

My CV includes live work and record sessions with Carl Perkins, Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Billy Lee Riley, Champion Jack Dupree, Jools Holland, Lowell Fulsom, Roscoe Gordon, Andy Fairweather Low, Tom Jones, Willie Littlefield, Van Morrison, Lisa Mills, Mick Fleetwood, Paul Rogers, Buffalo Squeeze, Chrissie Hynde, Sophisticated Savage, Jimmy Page, Lulu, Scotty Moore, DJ Fontana, Ronnie Wood, Jimmy Copley, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler……..that’s enough of all that for now as the Duke of Edinburgh told me it's a red card to name drop, please forgive me if I’ve missed you out.

I can be seen playing Double bass in the Martin Scorsese music documentary “Red, White and Blues”

Hope you enjoy the site. The original inspiration to play Double Bass came from listening to old Rock'n' Roll records by Elvis, Little Richard, Carl Perkins,Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly. Then digging deeper into rarer Rockabilly recordings by people such as Sonny Burgess and Billy Lee Riley. This opened the door to the Blues of Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Lightin' Hopkins amongst many others.

Then came the Rhythm and Blues of 1950's America. Artists include Wynonie Harris, Roy Brown, Amos Milburn, Ruth Brown, Joe Turner and Little Willie Littlefield.

Influential Double Bassists include Bill Black (Elvis), James Kirkland (Ricky Nelson and Bob Luman), Al Rex (Bill Haley),Willie Dixon (Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Chuck Berry plus hundreds of others) Ransom Knowlings (Washboard Sam and Big Bill Broonzy), Big Crawford (Muddy Waters), Larry Taylor (Canned Heat and Tom Waits), Ray Brown (Duke Ellington among hundreds of others), Herbie Flowers (Legendary session man) and Danny Thompson (Nick Drake among many others).

For the Bass Guitar influences began with James Jameson, the legendary bass player at Motown, Don "Duck" Dunn and Wayne Cogsbill. Then moving on to Bootsy Collins (James Brown and George Clinton), Larry Graham (Sly Stone and Prince) and George Porter Junior (The Meters). On the British side people like John Entswhistle, Paul MaCartney, Jet Harris, John Paul Jones and Norman Wyatt Roy feature heavily
