About Me

Hello, my name's Chris Ringler and I'm a writer living in Downtown Flint, Michigan, which is in that mitten shaped state and is considered one of the places the motorized carriage was born. I began writing when I was 18 and started with 'zines and small magazines and have been able to get my work out into the big, bad world and have completely fallen in love with telling stories. I have had one book of short stories published (which you'll read about below), and have had several stories published as well Let's be honest, no one likes to classify what they do because it limits what people believe you are able to do but, let's face it, you want to know what I write so, basically I describe my stories as Dark Fiction, which is a place between horror and the ordinary, a place where anything can happen and does. What I write are dark stories about the corners of the heart we tend to ignore, shining light into these places in the hopes of learning what we are and why it is that way. As I mentioned above, I got into writing through short stories and 'zines, and have since written a novel, been published in a magazine three digests, and have compiled some small story collections I sell personally. My writing is dark, honest, and searches the dark corners of the human heart. My stories wander through cemeteries and knock on tombs, all while skipping and whistling funeral hymns. Even in darkness though, there is light, and it is that which I seek. Other than writing I love taking photos (the creepier the better), advocating the arts, writing reviews, draw, and am learning to paint. Here's what people are saying about my book, Back From Nothing -"Good short story writers are hard to find these days, so it's refreshing to see that there is someone out there still doing it - and doing it very well. Chris Ringler's style is unique, there's almost no one to compare him to.""You only know the force of the wind when you walk into it, not when you lie down. It is in this way that Chris Ringler searches for truth. Through his fiction, he grapples face to face with the darkest of human experience, and his psyche lives to tell you about his victory."I have prose-poems in BARE BONE - 6, and 7, and a story in number 9. All three pieces have been well received and the piece in issue 7 has been called 'gorgeous', which is neat. I also received Honorable Mention in Year's Best Fantasy and Horror -19. Along with writing blogs, and fiction, I review movies for Jackasscritics.com, an indie review site that's high on the snarkiness and low on dashing model-types. I am a huge movie nerd and had a chance to help put the 2006 Flint Film Festival together. I am very active in the arts in Flint and am a former member of the Creative Alliance, a collective of artists and musicians in Flint, Michigan. I am also one of the people behind the guerilla art shows that occur here in Flint.Credits Bare Bone 6 Bare Bone 7 Bare Bone 9 Cthulhu Sex Magazine November, 2005Honors Honorable Mention - The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror #19 for With Me Honorable Mention - The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror #20 for The Third Horseman.
