Jump Dealers

Jump the shark!!

About Me

Jump Dealers started out as The Gondolas around February 2003 and it's only recently that we changed our name. Some of the members however, have played together from time to time in various combination (everything from red hot dixie stuff to wall-cracking heavy metal) over nearly 20 years. Today, and since forming The Gondolas, we play a mixture of Jump Blues, R&B and New Orleans, which we've found out, fits just about everywhere; all the way from cozy pubs to large ball venues.
What makes Jump Dealers stand out from other bands on this scene, is our doubling of instruments, where we easily switch from a two piece brass section to a five piece semi-big band. To this we also wanna add a lot of harmonized background vocals. Well, you'd better judge for yourself!? Under "MUSIC" at our site you can listen to (or download for free!) our CD "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!", recorded in June 2005. Enjoy & Happy Truckin'!

Influences: Jump Blues. In the year of our Lord 1942... With a lot of musicians out fighting for their country in World War II, there was no longer a basis for the same vast amount of big bands as during the pre-war era. This gave way to new possibilities as musicians from both jazz and blues schools came together in smaller combos, often consisting only of horns, piano, electric guitar, double-bass, drums and vocals. Lyrics were often based on everyday problems such as relationships or alcohol. And instead of the swing style's mellow vocalizing came the blues wailing. However, due to the advent of the jukebox and nation-wide radio broadcasting, Jump Blues was discovered by 'the white man' and developed into it's more famous 'baby brother', Rock'N'Roll. There have been several revivals of this music. Joe Jackson's "Jumpin Jive" LP in the 80's led the way. Followed around the same time (as a spin-off from the British rockabilly revival) by Ray Gelato and his band "The Chevalier Brothers". Later on in the 90's, came the Retro Swing movement with cats such as Indigo Swing and Cherry Poppin' Daddies.
