About Me

Free Tibet Demonstration in Bern/Switzerland on april 26th 08, in front of approx. 10'000 people
Tsering Purtag, whose parents had to flee tibet, was born in switzerland and started playing guitar at the age of thirteen. instead of taking lessons, he teached himself, by listening to his favourite albums of that time. among those were deep purple's made in japan, santana's best of(which he learned note by note)and a couple of jimi hendrix records. he then formed a rock trio with his two brothers.
then, after several years of practicing and playing gigs in switzerland and abroad, they recorded their first album called "greetings from the roof of the world". it was well received by the press, and specially the guitarwork got some praise. the record was in 80's/early 90's heavy rock style, and the influence of the guitar heroes of that period, like van halen and malmsteen, is obvious.
their second album was called "ocean of wisdom" and was released on the occasion of the 60th birthday of his holiness, the dalai lama. Tsering Purtag composed and arranged the whole album, and it contains ancient tibetan lyrics as well as various instruments played on synthesizer guitar. the record is sold out, at the moment.
the third cd, Tsering Purtag recorded on his own with the help of some of the finest swiss musicians. by then, he had moved away from the heavy rock style a bit and more funk influences had sneaked in. nevertheless, the guitarplaying is just as intense.
the recording took place in various studios in switzerland, and the mastering was done by george marino at sterling sound new york.
