Toronto's THE SYMTONES were formed by Peter McKnight and Jason McKnight in the summer of 2006........................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ .................................We started as an art project... Like, "Hey, what are you guys doing this summer? We should record an EP. Everyone can write a song and then we'll put them together and we'll have a nice little EP that we all worked on together."The idea was to just hang out with friends and see what we could come up with. So we played cover songs in friends' kitchens and living rooms, started to write some songs, bought some new instruments in kensington market, found some old instruments in a family member's basement storage space buried beneath some ski's and were given some old instruments that co-workers weren't using anymore, rented a 8-track and started to demo some songs. ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ..........................The summer crept past and we kept on pushing back plans for the EP- everyone involved sort of got busy, had things to do and sort of disappeared with the last rays of summer. So, as a two-piece, before the momentum started to fade, we picked up a copy of Exclaim! magazine and called the only recording studio ad that was listed. By this time, the end of the year was approaching and we wanted to record some songs properly in a studio and get our music out so people could hear it.......................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ .....................................We recorded the HEADLINE SAYS EP with Producer James Pew at Euphonic Sound, Toronto. Four songs, short and sweet....................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ .......................................Spring 2007. Lovingly built "boom for real!", a home studio that includes but is not limited to a bunch of mic's that were donated to the cause, a few hundred feet of cable, one andy warhol heart print, 4 original Peter McKnight paintings, lego, one red stripe bottle, a violin and various other necessities................................................. ............................................................ ............................................................ .......................................New songs were born, torchered, pampered, aborted, thrown-out, erased, nurtured back to health and finally finished. Seven of our favourite songs from these sessions were collected in the OCTOPUS ROCK EP.......................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ..........................................We are currently recording our first full length record with producer James Pew at Euphonic Sound.
