Katz is a graduate of the Schulich School Of Music at McGill University and holds a B.Mus in Jazz Performance. He is also a graduate of the Claude Watson School for the Arts at Earl Haig S.S. ............................................................ ....................................................He has been performing professionally since the age of 12 and has played in international festivals, cruise ships, concert halls, and all varieties of restaurants, bars and live music venues. His passion for rhythm and percussion drove him to seek out lessons in Indian rhythmic conception from Toronto professor and mridangam virtuoso Trichy Sankaran, as well as afro-cuban instruction from a trio of professors from the Holguin Conservatory Of Music in Holguin, Cuba. J.D. has supplemented his official musical training with much personal research into the areas of world percussion and rhythmic concept and with active participation in multiple world percussion ensembles.. ............................................................ ............................................J.D. has an extremely active schedule as a performer, session musician, private teacher and clinician, teaching in his own home-based private studio as well as 3 recognized music schools and regularly performing workshops for children through the children’s education/entertainment company Mystic Drumz. He is the house drummer at Euphonic Sound Studio and is frequently called on to fill the drum throne is a wide variety of musical situations.
