How about, "Brains baby, brains!!"??

About Me

This layout was handmade with love by the folks at My space or yours? using original artwork by Marah Johnson. Go get one!
I just moved to Austin, Texas, after living in Mexico for the past two years. I was in Philly before that. I've been coming to Austin on and off for awhile, and am really excited to be living here.
I'm a freak for nature, music, brazilian jiu-jitsu, color, texture, expression, love and my dog. I tend to depend on the natural world as my source of peace and balance, and to clear my mind of all of the human craziness going on. I often find the spiritual and the inspirational in the seemingly commonplace. I like to travel and learn and listen and ask questions. I like to know what you think. I paint and draw and imagine and make documentaries. Sometimes I fiercely need to be alone and at other times I want to hug the entire world. My sidekick is Wesley, the coolest dog in the land, and one of my greatest teachers (he pretty much ALWAYS wants to hug the entire world).
Life priorities and loves include: family, friends, music, art, photography, making things, long, zone-out walks (no, they don't have to be on the beach... I love forests, cities, winding paths, junk yards and abandoned lots, too...), weather, non-cooking (raw food creations), hot cooking, writing, spirituality and its application in everyday life, personal development, martial art thinking, continuing to learn about this amazing Universe and our ongoing dance with it, spreading the love energy, trying to become a better and better person over time...
For work I split my time between my nonprofit film organization, Reel Futures International, our current documentary film project (myspace.com/reelfutures), entitled, "In the Absence of Men", and lots of educational consulting. I also do a bit of freelance writing and editing on the side (so contact me if you need any!). My background is in anthropology, art and education/curriculum design, and I feel that, finally, my life is embodying all of these loves. I am very grateful every day.
I believe we are given our passions from the divine Source, whatever one chooses to call it, and finding a way in this life, despite the hurdles, doubt, challenges and criticism, to pursue those passions and truly live our bliss is paying the highest respect to both ourselves and to the Universe's intentions for us.

My Interests

Love, Compassion, Growth, Enjoying Life, Connect Four. Mexico, expatriotism, Wes - my canine traveling partner, happy people, yoga, BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU!, kettlebell training, self-defense, bodyweight training, integral spirituality & philosophy, quantum theory for the layperson, life between lives, self-improvement, expanding experience, art and those who are doing it - in whatever form, music, self-made instruments, people who've taken their own paths, journaling, zen, buddhism and eastern philosophy, travel, hiking forests, walking deserts & waking up on beaches, nature nature and more nature, been riding horses lately (western), health and nutrition (definitely not a vegetarian, though I have nothing against them), road trips, hammocks, rituals, spontaneity, finding compassion even when it is hiding, peeling away at the onion, speaking truth, meeting new people, staying away from drama, pretension and negativity, doing good, living light, having fun.

I'd like to meet:

WHO I'D LIKE TO MEET:

Old friends, new friends, people who are into health, dogs, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and/kettlebells/fight conditioning, positive and non-dogmatic spirituality, cool, open, conscious people.. here or anywhere.
Fellow life travelers, people who are good to others & true to themselves. Renegade pioneers involved interesting endeavors, everyday people who are just good folks.
Anyone involved in innovative projects, large or small, who are trying to make a positive difference in this crazy world.

OTHERS:

In this life:
Pema Chodron, Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra, Ken Wilbur, Michael Newton, Barbara Kingsolver, The Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Jon Kabat-Zinn (again), Amy Goodman, The Woot! writers, Cesar - the dog whisperer, Abbie, the person who invented the Post-It note, the countless KIDS who rise and contribute the world - refusing to succumb to the widely-held belief that they have to wait until adulthood to be worthwhile and amazing.
In another:
My mom (again), Ferrin (again), Einstein, Gandhi, Jim Henson, John Lennon, Bob Marley, Dr. Seuss, River Phoenix, Yoda, Jesus, Frida Khalo, Johnny Cash, Michaelangelo, Leonardo DaVinci, Bruce Lee, just to name a few...

And of course, Beautiful You.

BY THE WAY: If you send me a friend request, and you have absolutely NO information about yourself on your page, or if all of your "Top Friends" are oiled-up strippers with plastic tits, I will NOT add you. If you want me to know who you are, please share something about yourself - and I will be very happy to do the same. Peace.

Music:

I love all kinds of music, & not afraid of a slice of cheese (especially harmonies and duets, to which you might find me singing along, both parts of course, while I'm driving). Actually... not ALL kinds of music. "Smooth jazz" makes me insane and circus music totally freaks me out.

Movies:

Oh, countless.......! :)

Television:

Not much. I'm kind of clueless in this department. Although I did get sucked into Fight Girls on satellite tv while it was on... I usually just scan until I find a good (or terribly bad) movie, watch the nature channels, UFC, or 70's reruns.

Books:

My bible: The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle

Currently Working On:

Getting Things Done, David Allen

Other Goodies:

Journey of Souls & Destiny of Souls, Michael Newton

High Tide in Tucson, Barbara Kingsolver

A Theory of Everything, Ken Wilber

The Tao of Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee

A New Earth, Eckart Tolle

Pronoia: The Antidote to Paranoia, Rob Brezsney

The Art of Happiness, The Dalai Lama

The Fabric of the Cosmos, Brian Greene (in the "next up" pile!)

Tune Up Your Spanish, Gill & Wegman

Heroes:

See "Who I'd Like To Meet". Heroes for me are mostly everyday people, for even Nobel prize winners were drooly-faced kids pooping in diapers at one point.
See all. Love all. The wondrous is always right in front of us.
