robert farid karimi is a critically acclaimed, award winning spoken word artist, educator, and director, heralded by the Chicago Reader as a “powerful, distinctive voice”. Born of Iranian and Guatemalan parents, a UCLA graduate, National poetry slam champion, Def Poetry Jam performer, karimi received the Illinois Arts Council fellowship for excellence in New Performance Forms and the Alliance of Artists Communities Midwestern Voices & Visions Award.karimi has performed all over the world, from off-Broadway to Alaska. He has received numerous National Performance Network Creation Funds and residencies. His work has been published internationally in Callaloo, Latino Literature Today, and Tea Party, recorded on CDs around the world, presented online at e-poets.com., and most recently featured in Total Chaos: The Art and the Aesthetics of Hip Hop.He is currently touring Cooking Con Karimi, an interactive comedy cooking show, for the 2008-2009 season, working on a new poetry book, conducting workshops on performance and mixed race identity, and directing 2 shows.
