About Me

got my first record in 1974 for my b-day; the Carl Douglas-Kung Fu Fighting 45 (which I still own and play at gigs). From there I always wanted music (mainly records) for gifts as much sometimes more than toys. Then my dad brought me "rappers delight" 12" as a present and that's how I first headr rap and I told myself, "I want to find everything that sounds like this". I went on a mission to do that. I learned all the words and rapped along then I started to write my own raps (and also breakdance and pop). All the while buying records but never actually DJing. In the late 70s/early 80swhile living in Stuttgart Germany (army brat) my older sister had to watch me so when she went to the teen dances she had to bring me. I had this metallic silver race car jackect that the door man labeled my "disco jacket". I would be there, thru out the ages of 9-12, hanging out and dancing by myself (and occasionally with the older teen girls...yeah boyee!!). Then I often found myself hanging in the DJ both with Nate who was the resident DJ who played the hottest soul, funk, r&b and some Hip Hop of the day. I would be the guy who would take the written requests from people and pull the records for him and often try to push him to play more Hip Hop so I could just hear it.A few years later, while living in Fort Riley, Kansas, I met DJ Pill (I'll add that "classic" story later) and he became my mentor and that's when I first touched the turntables in '85. Then that summer my parents threw a surprise block party for me with DJ Pill on the wheels and at the end he announced there would be a new DJ making their world premiere that night. I looked around like, 'I wonder who?' and he was like, "Kevin Beacham come on up"....and that was my first time DJing in public. From there I dabbled off and on with the turntables cause my focus was rapping and production. In about '96/'97 I finally got more serious about DJing after going to too many Hip Hop shows/parties where it seemed every DJ was throwing on some break record and scratching for hours and that was their set..that or sloppy DJing with no blends and not even good slams. Basically I felt that the DJ Culture had elevated technically and that was amazing but people weren't taking the time to learn the basics and be musical about it. I wasn't rapping that much anymore (another long story) so I decided to finally take the DJ thing serious. I started to make my first mixtapes for dolo (under the name "A.M.C", with J Pratt, & DeeJayBird. I'll list my complete discography later....I didn't actually own my fist pair of turntables of any sort until I moved to Minneapolis in 2002 (making the RSE $ yo!!! ha) and got some Technic 1200s (that I barely have time to touch). So like always my only practice is when I'm live doing my thing pretty much....That's about it. I make Mix CDs, I rock parties, & I got a record collection that I'm proud of.....
