Chill Rob started rappin in high school in Jersey City where he grew up. Back in the day the most popular rap acts were GrandMaster Flash and the Furious 5, Cold Crush Bros., Spoonie Gee, dudes like that... the Jersey City Hip Hop scene used to be a lot of basement parties, and block parties where only a few crews and even fewer soloists could hold the crowds attention without being dissed. The big event for us was a party at Sacred Heart or 41, any of the school parties cause it was bigger than just a neighborhood jam everybody would be there. When I saw my man "Jimmy Mack from Hackensack" do his thing I was definitely sure I needed to rhyme.
Years later my man from high school, Latee of the Flavor Unit, introduced me to his man DJ Mark the 45 King, I was ready, I said a few joints I had written some old some freestyle, didn't realize this was my audition and the beginning of my Hip Hop dream being realized. The 45 King convinced me (without too much arm twisting) to record a song with him at a local studio and we gave the finished product to DJ red Alert at Kiss Radio (they had a different program back then 88', 89') this turned into my 1st single "Dope Rhymes" side a (records and tapes have 2 sides) "Chillin" side b. Wild Pitch records was the label, at the time the Roster was deep... a lot of real good acts but the contracts were for slaves, and we thought of ourselves as free men so the label folded... not before I released "Ride The Rhythm", regarded as a classic in most hip hop circles. Toured with some of the biggest Rap acts ever. got almost all the way around the world. (maybe 4 or 5 countries I still wanna visit).
After the demise of Wild Pitch in my mind it didn't matter I was Chill Rob G before they met me so I continued doing what "The Chill One" does, I recorded another album called Black Gold which does have it's moments but real hip hop heads would be more interested in my current projects with the 45 King, Bankrupt Europeans, and a few others that should prove to be worth your time and money when ready so keep checkin... I'll be back atchu like the tail of the statue. CRG
