A Warm Loving Musical Spirit with a Passion for House Music…. This is the verbal personification of DJ Lisa Moody. She continuously works at honing her craft, whether it’s working with masters such as Jerome “Maestro†Hicks (Odells, Fantasy, Paradox) and Thommy Davis, or skillfully dropping House Beats in B-More. Moody is now entering a new mode: becoming adept in the art of remixing under the tutelage of a few House Music aficionados.
Moody’s musical horizons were broadly influenced by her parents, uncle and grandfather who were all avid collectors of rare jazz. She was exposed to all types of music – her favorites being Jazz, Classical, Rock, Disco, House, Old School Hip Hop and R&B. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, this Diva began playing music in junior high school for her peers at various events, providing her first taste of playing music before a crowd. Even when Moody managed a restaurant after college, she remained in the musical arena by setting the atmosphere on a nightly basis with the evening’s musical selections. In this way, she continued to build the creative foundation on which her outstanding technical skills stand today. Lisa says: “Music is, and will always be a part of me. No matter what jobs I’ve had -- up until my current Disc Jockey gigs – music always managed to take over no matter what I was doing!†In her heart, this Diva has always known what she was destined to do.
In 2003 Moody had the opportunity to spin at the ever-popular weekly party Sugar, as one-half of the creative Sugar Girl Squad, sharing the stage with the world renowned Diva, Ultra Naté, promoter of the on-going 5-year party. Moody DJ’s at the Hot Spot, runs sound checks and maintains artist scheduling. She also uses her considerable contacts and ensures that a host of A-list performers attend the club each Friday. Regulars include Jocelyn Brown, Robin S, Blaze, CeCe Penniston, Sybil, Kenny Bobien, Michael Watford, Bobby Coleman, Marc Evans and Crystal Waters. Moody reminisces that “When Ultra and I first started out, we tried to get on everybody’s turntables – from friend's turntables, to studios and record stores. I remember when we first started Sugar as a happy hour at the club where we would open for Thommy Davis and DJ Oji.â€
Lisa Moody is no typical DJ. This credentialed professional also divides her time as Ultra Nate’s road manager, touring around the globe with her, arranging performance transportation, coordinating multi-media interviews (television, radio, etc.), issuing timely press-releases, and performing all other duties and responsibilities associated with a “road warrior team.†“There’s never a dull moment being on the road with Ultra – every gig we go on, there is a always funny story that goes along with it.†Ultra Nate is currently promoting her new Billboard chart topping album – so Moody certainly has her work cut out for her!
DJ Moody also graced the DJ platform at the Clevelander Hotel at the Miami Winter Music Conference in 2007 – a distinctive honor in itself – putting her in the company of heavy-hitters Bobby & Steve, Jellybean Benitez, Terry Hunter, and others too numerous to list. Baltimore has seen her spin at Paradox and Sonar. No matter where this DJ is playing – you are guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face and your head still vibrating with her sounds and energy!
Having worked in the industry behind the scenes and as a performer, Moody has had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with an array of extraordinary artists including luminary Patti Labelle, Jocelyn Brown, Ann Nesby, Sybil and King Brit. Her touring has taken her throughout the United States and Canada as well as Moscow, Paris, Brussels, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Estonia.
Moody partnered with Ultra Nate on yet another blessed opportunity: their own label, Deep Sugar Music. The duo is set to launch the careers of their first two artists, Lisa Mack and Jada. Currently in pre-production, they are gathering music tracks, writing and prepping these artists for a strong and solid introduction to the music industry and the world.
Obviously, this Diva is not limiting herself to any one musical avenue. So get it ready for the DJ Lisa Moody Experience soon to be spinnin’ at a club near you….
