After a nice summer warmer from Nicky Blackmarket, Matrix & Futurebound, things get hotter as we bring back a firm jungle favourite…
SHY FX has been busy as ever with his Digital Soundboy imprint, and stealthily involved in the surrounding urban scenes, from Dizzee Rascal & Lily Allen to remixes for Kano. More notably for pushing the dubwise antics of Breakage, Benny Page and Visionary, and pushing the ever-growing dubstep scene with his and Breakage's remix of Benga & Coki's anthem 'Night'. With Original Sin's remix of Ra currently on the shop shelves, featuring on this months ATM cover, and with his Innovation mix about to drop things certainly don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Expect signature intros, excursions to other genres and guaranteed dubbed out slammers from all angles
Next up on the bill is the talented ALIX PEREZ, one of D&B's leaders fo the nu-skool, with tunes being snapped up by various solid labels such as Soul:R, Creative Source and the prolific Shogun Audio. Striking allegiance with Lynx, Sabre and other fresh faces, it's high time Alix came to show Leamington what he's all about.
Making his return appearance to :stimulus:, BASHER has been hard at work with new material for Frequency and the revered Ram Records, bringing back the epic sounds we came to love the labels for. Those who witnessed his previous performance will know what to expect, those who haven't, be warned!
Last but not least on our extensive summer DJ lists is Stratford's D-Vice, resident at Whiplash and a notable DJ in the midlands scene. Stretching from dubbed out skankers to stripped back liquid and a healthy dose of jump up inbetween, this versatile DJ is certainly one to watch
As always we continue our new partnership with WHERE’S THE JUNGLE? clothing who have kindly offered to provide sponsorship for :stimulus: Watch out for giveaways on the night as well as future competitions as we celebrate another step forward in the evolution of Leamington Spa’s home of cutting edge drum & bass. ---------------------------------------------------------
:stimulus: was founded in 2001 by Samas, as an extension of the regular Saturday nights he had started doing alongside Glyde at a local pub basement. It all started at Robbin's Well in Leamington Spa, and the first ever event was for Cancer Research, raising £350 for the charity, and featured Shaolin, Pace, Samas and A.Flex.
In early 2002, after a few succesfull nights with Residents Samas, A.Flex and Caution, Samas was approached by Raising The Deep head honcho, DJ Reaction. After a few meetings, they formed Terra:Technique, the objective being they would run events over Leamington and Banbury, with Leamington hosting the up and coming talent from around the country, and Banbury showcasing the A-List DNB DJs. Most of the big guns passed through, from Kenny Ken to Mickey Finn, Zinc + GQ to Pendulum, Mampi Swift to Hype, as well as some one-off old skool nights with Top Buzz, Ratty, Slipmatt and more. After 2 successful years running Terra, Reaction and Samas went their seperate ways, and :stimulus: was brought back to the fore.
Running on the 2nd Friday of every month, it built a solid foundation, and a good reputation nationwide. With DJs such as Hazard, Kryptic Minds, Generation Dub, Skitty, Danny Wheeler, Heist, Utah Jazz, Zen, Subfocus, Holdtight, Rascal & Klone, Drumsound, Adrok, APB, Devize, Xample, The Force, Benny & Aries and many more gracing the decks in the cosy basement venue. within a few months a secondary night was developed, Liquid Stimulus, taking the 4th Friday with some deeeper flavours, with equal success.
In January 2005, :stimulus: was approached by the Cohesion and Skankadelic Techno promotions, to form a new concept in Birmingham, linking 4 promoters for one big party - Underground City. The first event on 25th March 2005 saw Subfocus, Danny Wheeler, Rascal & Klone, Fallout, Devize, Samas, Pace and Buzzy blow up the Custard factory for what was to be the first in a succession of big nights at Underground City.
Mid 2005, and the end of an era came for Robbins Well as new management changed their policy; :stimulus: was to find a new home. This came in the form of Club Silx, and brought the legendary Fabio & Donovan Badboy Smith to Leamington Spa, initially penned as a one-off night. It went off, and demand saw more nights arrive in March 2006, with Grooverider, Bryan Gee and Danny Wheeler passing through. Sadly the club wasn't right for Stimulus, and numerous issues with the club brought that to a premature end, with Samas choosing to pull the night and keep the :stimulus: reputation intac
In February 2007 :stimulus: began a new era in Royal Leamington Spa and was given the honour of hosting the main room of the launch night of new Leamington venue Smack. Pendulum & MC Jakes officially christened the new club in an event that is likely to go down as one of the biggest occasions of its kind in Leamington club history. The following months saw Shy FX, Total Science, Xample, Friction, Drumsound, Andy C, Logistics, Chase & Status, Nicky Blackmarket, Matrix, Devize, High Contrast, Pleasure, Mampi Swift, Mistabishi, Dillinja, Cyantific, DJ Hype, Randall, Brookes Bros, Hazard, Heist, Danny Wheeler, Fabio, Danny Byrd, Adam F, DJ Basher, Influx UK, Subfocus, MC Biggie, Simon Bassline Smith, Commix, Bryan Gee, Futurebound, TC & Taxman make stops in Leamington for more succesful events at :stimulus: new venue.
