Fossegrimen was started in 2006 to create pure unearthly doom to fuel your drug induced night terrors.Even as the dirty, sludgy doom game nears the point of critical oversaturation, new acts continue to appear that are somehow able to find their own unique voice and make it heard above the ever-growing din of limp-wristed copycats and half-assed wannabes. One such act is Fossegrimen, who have just unleashed their debut demo, a massive one-track, fifteen-minute offering that not only serves as a great introduction to a promising new project, but is engaging and thoroughly enjoyable enough to stand on its own. Tectonic riffs and plodding drums lurch below a nice mixture of deep growls, harsh blackened shrieks, and the occasional hissed whisper that do a great job of varying up the approach a bit without compromising the gloomy ambiance. The production is a bit weak, but not enough to distract from the sound and is definitely well within acceptable limits for a self-produced demo.
