I've been screenprinting for over 20 years. Since the early 90s I've had a small shop where I print tees for everyone from Firefighters to Franchises. In that time I've printed very few of my own designs because I've been so busy working for everyone else. I still am printing for others, but I am doing my stuff too, and I can help you do the same. I'll teach you how to print t-shirts, tote bags, and more.
Screenprinters are generally pretty closed to the idea of teaching others the skill. Generally, that's because it's pretty easy to learn the basics, and starting your own operation is fairly inexpensive as businesses go. The reason many printers are so closed is that helping you learn may wind up meaning competing with you in an already competitive market. I know, because I've been pretty reluctant to help others in the past for that very reason. It stinks to lose a job to someone whose inexperience has caused them to underbid a job, turning a moneymaker for you into a loser for everyone.
Regardless, I don't think the closed attitude has protected businesses one iota. I feel what it really does is propogate the problem by not sharing the pitfalls of underpricing and poor workmanship. It also hinders creative people, and they are one of my favorite types.
I've decided to open my shop to people who want to learn, whether to do their own Cafe Press type gig; make tees for their friends, clubs, and parties; or start their own business. If you would like to learn and can make it to Tampa, Florida, you should sign up for a class.
Of course, if you just want a quote for some tee shirts we print for you, just email me, and I'll get the ball rolling for you. MyGen Profile Generator
