(so far)*** ***... ...... ... .. .... ++++a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank" .. .. ***. .***..***. *.At the age of 2 this little cousin became my first real "Greek Teacher".*** .. . . . . . . . . . .MY "DOWN UNDER". . . . . . . . . . . . . . .AND. . . . . .. ................***AND ..... . I teach 6,7, 8th grade science in an urban school district. That's my day job. At night and several weekends,I sing with an orchestra or local band to keep my voice in shape for the original CD I am working on. As I was growing up my rather hip 'yiayia' (grandmother) would claim that they made a mistake on her birth certificate @ the ripe young age of 87 she looked about 60 and was recording music in the studios with me... Anyway, I can honestly say that I understand what she was talking about now because I don't look, act or feel my age. My students say that I have more energy than many of them and could pass for one of their classmates instead of the teacher--how refreshing (and sometimes scary) it is, when a parent asks me where the teacher is! : ) I love to help the children, especially where I teach. These children appreciate and respect those who REALLY care about them (don't kid yourselves, children are people and they CANNOT be fooled!). It is a fulfilling experience even though it takes much of my time and energy. I am very fortunate and thankful, to have the opportunity to pursue two of my passions professionally. It warms my heart when I reach a person/make that connnection either from stage or in the classroom. I am blessed that I've had countless opportunities to successfully change many children's paths from an unsavory outcome to a positive and productive one through my teaching...Wow!!! When the majority of a student's family didn't make it to high school let alone college and the mother stops you while walking through the mall years later to thank you for "holding on to her child and not letting go" because her child is now in the doctoral program of a prestigous university (what an unbelievable feeling)... or that "high" from seeing how the song you're singing brings tears of joy or sadness to people in the audience.... When the world we live in isn't always a bed of roses, and you are able to reach out to someone through music, relate to them, comfort them, bond with them by showing them that although all their life experiences aren't easy,'they're not the only ones going through it'.
