Jonathan Greenstein was born July 9th, 1986. He began playing alto saxophone when he turned 11. After a few years of studying Classical music, Jonathan turned to playing Jazz. As he finished his freshman year in highschool, he switched to the Tenor saxophone as his principal instrument.
Studying with saxophone greats such as Erez Bar-Noy, Yuval Cohen and Eli Degibri, Jonathan managed to work around Tel-aviv, playing with Israel's top Jazzmen, among them Avishai cohen, Amos Hoffman, Shay Zelman, Alek katz, Noam David, Amit Golan, Ofer Schnider and many more. He participated twice in "Jazz signs", Israels only jazz competition, reaching the finals two years in a row.
After Graduating with honors from "Irony A" music program, Jonathan was drafted to the IDF military band, which is highly prestigious. He has recently finished his duty there as a player and an arranger.
While still in duty, Jonathan started to play in the Holon Big-Band, quickly moving to the 1st tenor chair. As a musician in the big band he had the honor to play with two great Israeli singers- Shlomit aharon and Hagit Goldberg, as well as performing with the great Judi Silvano. Jonathan also played 1st tenor in the Tel-Aviv BigBand, in which he was also featured as an arranger.
in 06-07', Jonathan studied at Rimon school for Jazz and Contemporary Music. There he had the chance to learn from the best musicians in israel such as Amikam Kimelman, Guri Agmon, Aviya Kopelman and Eli Benacot.Jonathan has recently begun his degree studies at Berklee College of Music.Jonathan Is the winner of the 2007 America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship for Jazz performance studies abroad.To contact Jonathan Greenstein Please E-mail to:
