About Me

Joshua Rosalis is an Israeli-born, American-trained composer and sound designer specializing in contemporary music, jazz, and piano with an international twist. He earned his Master's in Music Composition with Dr. Edward Knight at the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University, and graduated from the Hed College of Contemporary Music in Tel –Aviv. Rosalis was influenced by Classic Rock, Israeli and American folk music, Arab and Middle Eastern music as well as Yiddish music.For TV Rosalis was the composer and music supervisor for the quality TV series "Character Studies" aired on PBS for Executive producer Tony Vellela. During his time at PBS he met with composers Stefan Sondheim, John Kender, and "Fiddler on the Roof" Lyricist Sheldon Harnick. Rosalis also created scores and designs for the Baby international Channel for the show "The Circle of Life" and was one of the creators and a composer of a new show "Dandun" also for Baby International Channel. He recently composed an original score for "Colors by REVLON" a REVLON commercial with Yarin Sahaf and director Eran Shapira.Rosalis started to compose for theatre as a graduate student, Rosalis was commissioned by Oklahoma City Theatre Company to create music for the play “The Miracle Worker” with Richard Nelson as the director. Based on the success of the first collaboration, Oklahoma City Theatre Company commissioned music for the Greek tragedy “Trojan Women.” The project expanded into nine songs, in addition to original compositions for the women's chorus background music and innovative sound effects. Critics praised Rosalis' score for "giving the play a heightened, chilling quality." After "Trojan Women" Rosalis composed music for the Classic “Rosencrants and Guildenstern are Dead” And the Spanish play "Life is a Dream" the Critics said on "Life is a Dream" " The 10 Oklahoma City Theatre Company performers who made the Spanish author’s masterpiece (Life is a Dream m.d) come to life, aided by the theatrical, spooky, mood setting original music of sound designer Joshua Rosalis. Other works created in collaboration with OCTC are "Julius Ceaser" "The Tempest" and the original musical play "Gebirtig" about the life and death of Mordechai Gebirtig the Jewish poet and composer that was murdered by the Nazis in 1942. In New York, he has written music for "Ourselves Alone," hailed as "subtle and effective, with the sound of helicopters hovering overhead heard only once, as a mere suggestion of the strong subconscious factor in Belfast life surveillance had become." On his music and sound design for the play "Cex&the Sity" with Director Michal Ormond, a wild parody on the hit TV show "Sex & the City" featured on the Midtown International Theatre Festival Rosalis was hailed "The sound design by Joshua Rosalis sets the mood for the entire evening." Rosalis also had a long collaboration with "City Light youth Theatre" where he created scores and design for the plays "Bang, Bang, You're Dead" "Now you see me" " Anne Franck and Me" with director Damaris Webb "What If?" and "Into the Woods" Other works for Theatre: "De donde?" "A Winter's Tell"Rosalis works was selected to be presented at the Stellar Network Designer Showcase in New York City. He is a Project 21 member and was awarded recognition at the ASCAPLUS Awards.
