About Me

Second Sister originally formed in 1998 as an acoustic trio, consisting of Laurie Lehrter-Burnham, Kelly Thomas and Scott Snake Miller. The group released their first CD "a thousand lives" in October of '98. The effort was listed as one of the 40 best local releases of 1998 by City Beat Magazine. Local critic, Mike Breen wrote, "...Though sparsely recorded with just acoustic guitars as a backdrop, A Thousand Lives is a robust and full-bodied record, highlighted by the triple vocal threat of Lehrter, Miller and Thomas. the three have an almost-telepathic sense of each other vocally, making difficult three-part hamonies sound like a breeze."The band later evolved by adding electric guitar and the talents of bassist, Chris Perrault and phenomenal drummer, Red MacCormack. Sadly, Red died at the young age of 39, in 2002. Thomas has since founded The Red MacCormack Recording Grant Fund via her organization that supports the music scene, The Rivertown Music Club. The band was a staple of the Cincninati music scene from 1998 to 2000. Eventually hanging up the project due to life changes. The band was in process of recording a full album, but it never was completed. All members of Second Sister have remained close over the years. Laurie Lehrter-Burham is now busy being a wonderful mother to two active sons, she also continues to work as an artist and teaches at Northern Kentucky University, Kelly Thomas and Chis Perrault both stay busy in the local music scene playing in Kelly Thomas and The Fabulous Pickups. Perrault also plays with The Hyde Park Outrage. After playing in the tri-state with Crazy Chester, Matt DeCoster and Noah Hunt, Scott moved up to New Hampshire with his family in 2005. He will be in town for 2 shows in February 2007. Drum God, Glenn Kukla will be filling in the drum parts. The band is looking forward to the shows and taking the stage once again.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

Band Members: Scott "Snake" Miller is a wicked talented guitarist and songwriter. As a teen Scott's "Ma", June Cooper, ran Alan's Truck Stop in Amesbury, Mass. and later, Louden Country Hall, in New Hampshire. She hosted some of the icons of Americana music at her clubs. Sleepy LaBeef lived with Scott's family for a few months after his bus caught fire. Few teens get the benefit of learning guitar licks from such a force of music. Scott in the 80s went on the road with the late Cub Koda (most famous for the hit "Smokin' In The Boys Room"). Scotty left with the tour as an 18 year old roadie and eventually ended up the guitarist in Cub's band. Cub's spirit and influence molded Scott as both a musician and person. After touring with Cub (where he met Red) Scott played music in a variety of states, including Michigan and Ohio. In Cincinnati, Scotty and his dear friend, Red MacCormack formed the band Medicine Hat, a Southern drenched, swampy rock band. He also played with Matt Decoster, Crazy Chester, Noah Hunt and our band, Second Sister. He is now living up in the mountains of New Hampshire on his family's 70 acre farm. ____________________________________________________________ __Kelly Thomas, currently of Kelly Thomas and The Fabulous Pickups, teamed up with Lehrter and Miller in 1998. Songwriting came quickly to the trio and Thomas continues to be a regular in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky scene. In 2006 Thomas released her first solo album "Another Mile". Many of the tunes on the album were cowritten with Miller. She also is the founder of The Rivertown Music Club, a non-profit organzition that supports local artists. Thomas established The Red MacCormack Recording Grant in 2005, in loving memory of her friend and bandmate. The grants help local musicians finance original recording projects. ____________________________________________________________ ____ Laurie Lehrter Burnham--A true artist, Laurie is talented in many types of art; music, drawing, scuplting, metal working, poetry...She was performing with Lee Rolfes on a regular basis when she met Thomas. She is a talented songwriter who has a special way with words. Lehrter is currently teaching art at Northern Kentucky University. ____________________________________________________________ ____ Chris Perrault talented bassist and all around great guy. Chris was most well known in the Cincinati music scene for his years in the heavy metal band, Aftershock. He later traded in the heavy sounds for gigs with Second Sister, Matt Decoster and G. Burton and The Hyde Park Outrage. Perrault is a solid bassist who can easily go the distance between various styles. Perrault continues to play with Thomas as a member of The Fabulous Pickups. ____________________________________________________________ ___ Red MacCormack--Red was born in Portland, Maine March 13, 1962. His first love, starting at age 11, was playing the drums. He played with Port City Spoilers, Kip Brown and Live Wire, in Maine. He toured nationally with the late Cub Koda in the 80s before eventually settling in Cincinnati. Locally Red rocked with Overdue, Medicine Hat, Second Sister, The Sonny Morman Group and others…Red was an incredible showman who would steal the show from behind his drum kit…twirling, throwing and sometimes even lighting his sticks on fire and blowing flames! The thing that most musicians noticed about Red was his incredible, unique style and impeccable timing. Red was a primary songwriter and arranger for Medicine Hat and Second Sister. Not only was Red a talented musician he hand-crafted drums and owned and operated Red’s Music in Clifton. A particularly great moment for Red was when he was able to personally give Chris Layton, of Double Trouble, a snare drum he had custom built for him.All of the members of Second Sister feel truly blessed we were able to share the stage with Red. He was, as they say, the real McCoy. ____________________________________________________________ ____Glenn Kukla filling in on Drums 2007. Glenn is a wonderful musician and friend. He offered to play these shows with us and it feels right to have him on board. Glenn played with Scotty and Chris in The Matt DeCoster band and he actually played the last Second Sister show with us in 2000. Much love to Glenn for steppping up for this challenge!__________________________________________________ ______________
