This is the official myspace page for the original American band known as the LIBERTINES US, formed in 1983.
History:
Back in Cincinnati, Ohio circa 1983, the original power trio consisted of Walt Hodge (guitar & words), Randy Cheek (bass), and Joe Hamm (drums). Randy came up with the name while reading an old book (you can guess the title and author) written by a French aristocrat renowned for scandalous behavior... Anyway, after 1986, they expanded to a quartet, adding Jimmy D (guitar), and Greg Blanton replacing Joe on drums. By the early 90s, Randy had found success playing with the Ass Ponys. Ted Nagel filled in on bass during that time. Jimmy D, a notorious tour manager and sound engineer, took to the road. After playing and recording throughout the Midwest for a decade, the band went into hibernation for thirteen years. During the break, their previous recordings were eventually remastered and digitized for re-release.
Recent:
In 2005, Jimmy D convinced Walt and Randy that it was time to reunite, starting with a few charity events using the alias Los Amigos del Jimmy D. They had fun with the project, especially with fans who thought they had become a mariachi band...
Now:
In 2006, they reloaded with their favorite Libertunes, and headed back to Newport, KY where they started. With longtime friend Todd "T-Lo" Witt (BPA, Wolverton Brothers, Go To Hell) drumming, and some excellent new material added to their extensive catalog, they sound better than ever.
"Jingle, jangle, crunch! One of the indie-rock greats of the '80s returns".
