About Me

£
The Good Blades are a group of freelance journalists, who have begun their revolutionary Gonzo assault on modern media. They are red-blooded, libertine raconteurs fusing literary skill with the factuality of reportage, capturing the subject – whether it is a report on major political issues or simply an interview with a band – which enhances the readers understanding in a way that ordinary, soulless, ‘objective’ journalism fails to do.
Presently, they are based in the blogosphere, such as MySpace and YouTube, publishing their articles on websites. However, they will eventually take the mainstream press by storm. They hope to blow new life into the decaying format of printed newspapers as well experiment with photography and cinematography.
Due to their radical style they have built many strong connections in the music industry and now lay on regular gigs called ‘Good Blades Presents…[Live Music]’, in which they draw huge acts from the cities to their rural home county of Dorset.
Contact The Good Blades at [email protected] or message them here on MySpace if you wish to learn more about them; employ them for your magazine; or play at one of their music events.
The Good Blades are:
Lloyd Brown
Occupation: Promotion/Journalist
Lloyd Brown handles most of the managerial work of the Good Blades. This includes music promotion, contact with bands, mangers and companies, and the occasional scrap of gonzo journalism. Having been on a number of tours and to countless gigs and venues, Lloyd has made many essential networking connections for the Good Blades enabling efficient opportunities for the other Blades to do their jobs properly. Lloyd has often been the face of the Good Blades, appearing in a number of filmed and scripted interviews, and meeting with contacts.
Jack Parsons
Occupation: Journalist/Radio Host
Jack was studying English Literature at Aberystwyth University but also Jack has lots of experience as a journalist, having written for several publications and working as News Subeditor for the student magazine The Courier. He can handle a large range of topics, stretching from music to international politics. Jack won the Aberystwyth Uni media award (The Corbins) for All-Round Artiste 2007.
Jack also has experience working as a radio host, having presented the gonzo music show 'We Are Not Your Enemy'on Aberystwyth University's Bay Radio station that discussed new music and interviewed artists live on air.
Jack is presently lost in Europe. Check our blog regularly for his band interviews on the mainland.
Joe Taylor
Occupation: Promotion/Journalist/Film Maker
Joe Taylor is currently studying a BA Film, Theater and Television course at the University of Reading. He is able to use his wide knowledge of musicality and his skills of being talented bassist to explore the depth of genre and musical style in his writing. Joe organizes the visual media work that the Good Blades produce, mastering different editing software, and Camera work.
Similarly to Lloyd, Joe is very interested in music promotion and managerial work within the Good Blades. He runs the Good Blades Myspace and will soon run the Good Blades co.uk site on its release.
Sam Neill
Occupation: Live and studio photographer
Sam has come along way in his first year of live music photography, and during that year has become an essential attribute of the Good Blades. Sam takes photography very seriously and encompasses the confidence and attitude that is necessary to be a successful music photographer. Having worked alongside the Good Blades, Truth Explosion and other credible publishers, Sam is exceeding his hopes to create a career for himself in Music Photography.

GOOD BLADES SONG OF THE WEEK – 05/09/2008 -11/09/2008

Good Blades have an eclectic taste and choose a new song off MySpace each week to put on their site's music player, so check it regularly for updates! You can also listen to all of our previous Songs of the Week by clicking on the History function of the music player.

Artist: Venice Ahoy
Track: Fireworks
Reason: Track chosen by Lloyd, reasoning psychically divined by Jack:
Venice Ahoy are a groovy lil band from Southampton and Portsmouth that have previously been praised by the likes of Artrocker, who noted their Foals-esque sound. Venice Ahoy will be joining Good Blades at Southsea Festival on the 13th September, playing on our stage at Edge on the Wedge!
OK, OK.. so MGMT don't fit into the Good Blades Song of the Week criteria for being a hidden gem lost in the virtual labyrinth of MySpace because they have a major label and full-throtle, geared-up PR machine but THEY ARE SO GOOD. 'Electric Feel' is their latest single and it has been played over and over again in the Blade office that LLoyd and I know it inside out and back to front. The song is bound to be the theme tune for this summer's festival experience but is also perfectly suited to leisurely beach BBQs and parties with its mix of deep, funky bass, catchy drum beat and twinkling 80s synths. Lyrically it is almost impossible to decipher a logical meaning, but the general theme is that this band want us to, for at least one night only, ressurect Free Love and just go with it. Also, check out the single's video because it perfectly encaptulates the band's LSD aesthetic.

WE YES YOU NO - APOCALYPSE POCKET EDITION VIDEO

Quite some time ago now, the Good Blades interviewed an experimental London quartet called We Yes You No. The Blades were invited to take part in the making of their video for single 'Apocalypse Pocket Edition'. If you look carefully you can spot Lloyd, Sam and Tim as well as Little Blade, Sola Hammick. The graphics in this video were also produced by blade buddy, DZ Greene.
