Musicians and Artists for World Peace

About Me

Dear musician, performer, artisan, poet, author, producer or venue:
The Butterfly Gardeners and Woodstock Nation are inviting you to become a part of Musicians & Fine Artists for World Peace (MFAWP).
Performers, artists, DJs, musicians, producers, music venues and festivals from around the nation, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area, can have a very special role in cocreating world peace and transformation through the performance arts.
I am hoping you will respond and have us list you on our website as a member for free if you resonate with our mission statement & goals.
If you decide to be linked, might you be able to make a small optional love donation for our efforts? You can also join as a regular member if you like. Please see our membership below.
In your reply please include your name and the name of your band or performance group, including your address, phone number (specify if its home, office, or cell), website address and any group affiliation or position you hold. If you don't wish to give out your complete mailing address or phone number, please send us at least your city, state and zip code as that helps us to regionalize our mailing list. We can then either send you our Bay area events calendar or keep you abreast of any special happening in your area of the country.
Musicians & Fine Artists for World Peace was founded to produce and help promote events, concerts and festivals that support environmental, peace and justice projects and organizing with the goal of raising consciouness and global transformation. We support election reforms such as campaign financing, clean elections and the abolition or reform of the Electoral College. We also endorse ans supprt Congressman Kucinich's proposal for a cabinet level Department of Peace (www.house.gov/kucinich/action/peace.htm), raising the issue of corporate responsibility, protecting the Earth and old-growth forests, raising global consciousness, helping indigenous causes, increasing funding for art and music programs, ending the cycle of violence and abuse that is rooted in our male dominator culture and acknowledging artists and musicians as an important ingredient to transforming and improving our lives. We organized a nude peace photo made of over 50 couples spelling out the message Make Love Not War in San Francisco on April 19, 2003 for out compilation peace CD.

Musicians & Fine Artists for World Peace (MFAWP) have been endorsed by Congressman Dennis Kucinich to promote a concert to support his proposal for a cabinet level Department of Peace (Please see Department of Peace and Dennis Kucinich and The Peace Alliance
On January 24, 2002, the board of MFAWP endorsed the initiative to ban Space Based Weapons after being asked by the Institute for Cooperation in Space (ICIS) to extend our proposed concert to endorse the Space Preservation Act and Space Preservation Treaty. It would ban space-based weapons in all 190 Nations and is also sponsored by Dennis Kucinich.
On January 4, 2003, the director of ICIS Vancouver, Alfred Webre, had this to say. "We totally embrace and support Musicians & Fine Artists for World Peace and your concert to raise awareness for U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich Department of Peace Act. As you know, Dennis recently spoke here in Canada at the CUSP Conference in Toronto. His "Sacred Mission" speech endorsed the Space preservation Treaty Conference, banning all space weapons. Please see: Peace in Space
On April 19, 2003 Musicians & Fine Artists for World Peace organized a nude peace photo made of 53 couples spelling out the message Make Love Not War. This occurred on Baker Beach in San Francisco exactly one month to the day that the War on Iraq first began. Please see Make Love Not War for story and pictures.
In addition to our interest in the environment and world peace, our campaign will also cover election reforms such as campaign financing and the abolition or reform of the Electoral College, reforming the criminal justice system and the three strikes law, making the office of public defender an elected position, raising the issue of corporate responsibility, protecting the Earth and old-growth forests, raising global consciousness, supporting and developing sustainable communities, helping indigenous causes, increasing funding for art and music programs, ending the cycle of violence and abuse that is rooted in our male dominator culture, and acknowledging artists and musicians as an important ingredient to transforming and improving our lives.
We look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
May Peace Prevail on Earth!

In 1993 a National Geographic magazine article proclaimed that a butterfly can with a flap of its wings, change the world and that the ripple it sends out can spawn a hurricane. Acting in the spirit the Butterfly Gardeners Association has become a catalyst for helping to co-create a culture of world peace and global harmony by working with children and adults at a very personal level. Our common and innate love for butterflies has resulted in the bringing together of thousands of individuals and organizations all working in concert for positive global change with a keen focus on the interconnectedness of children, butterflies and nonviolence. Through the development of innovative educational and community projects and by promoting events and festivals that inspire citizens to act at the local level, we are able to arouse consciousness to the need of conserving and creating natural habitats for not only butterflies, but for other wildlife as well and whose very existence depends on them.
We are also exploring and researching the mystery of the butterfly's therapeutic, spiritual and cultural effects on humanity.
Since butterflies also serve as environmental indicators, they are excellent ambassadors for raising environmental awareness. Our programs promote the installation of butterfly gardens, children's environmental education, reading and nonviolence programs. Being that butterflies have these innately inspirational and spiritual qualities, their effect on children, as well as adults and seniors, is nothing less than miraculous.
We are working a U.S. cabinet level Department of Peace, whose goals include the creating of a national peace and nonviolence curriculum for school children and adults, programs to address the cycle of abuse and violence that threaten domestic and community environments, as well as finding new solutions to resolve international conflicts. We are also interested in working to increase funding for school art and music programs.
Highlights over the last 11 years have included:
Releasing butterflies at the Seventh Annual World Peace Festival with Pete Seeger in Amenia, New York for the World Peace Prayer Society
Being invited to present the World Peace Candle to Kofi Annan at the United Nations
Involving over 10,000 children in the San Francisco Bay Area to raise butterflies as an Earth Day project in 1999
Getting President Bill Clinton to proclaim January first an International Day of Peace
Some of our goals include:
1) public education on the life cycle of butterflies, what we can do to reverse butterfly decline, and how to attract butterflies, hummingbirds & other wildlife to local gardens
2) teaching that the stewardship of butterflies is linked to such serious issues as the misuse and overuse of pesticides, global warming, ozone depletion, habitat and rainforest destruction, genetically engineered food production (which may impact human health) and have all been shown to have impacts on butterfly populations. In this sense, butterflies have become the foremost indicator species (the canary in the coal mine) for most of the world's environmental problems
3) to use people love of butterflies as a means to foster nonviolent behavior and both cultural and biodiversity in our targeted populations.
Some of our objectives are to:
1) have 50,000 men, women and children annually attend our programs at schools, clubs, nursing homes and other institutions

2) get 1000 volunteers to plant butterfly gardens at homes, schools, parks and other locations and to help in our outreach
3) provide plant & source lists for establishing home or public butterfly gardens to 500 schools, 1000 homes and 100 public butterfly gardens and exhibits
4) partner with a minimum of 250 other groups and organizations that have similar goals and projects
5) have 1000 children in the Santa Rosa School District raise and release 1000 butterflies for the Health and Harmony Festival and participate in our Art for the Sky Project which will create a large butterfly and dove that will be photographed from an airplane over the festival,
6) have the members of MFAWP perform at a minimum of 500 events a year and bring our message to a larger community audience
7) have the members of MFAWP and the BGA through Project Chrysalis entertain at a minimum of 100 hospitals, hospices, schools, juvenile youth facilities, senior centers and other community institutions.
