Steve Bracks - Listens & ActsI was officially sworn in as the Premier of Victoria on October 20th 1999, and thank you to my valued voters was re-elected Premier in 2006.
As Premier, I have rebuilt Victoria’s infrastructure and services while maintaining strong budgets and managing a growing economy. Unlike my Liberal counter parts, whom destroyed the state we live in.
With myself being in power my government has been able to bring: record levels of investment in public infrastructure; major boosts to health, education and police services; the introduction of fixed terms of government and democratisation of the Legislative Council; and securing Victoria’s water resources for the next 50 years.
I also believe Reconciliation is need and called the first Reconciliation sitting of State Parliament to amend Victoria’s Constitution to recognise Indigenous Victorians for the first time!
As well as having the great privledge of being premier i have also taken the portfolio for Multicultural Affairs and i also the first Premier to assume responsibility for Veteran’s Affairs.
Prior to becoming Premier, I held several key portfolios as a Shadow Minister these included Treasury, Finance, Industrial Relations and Employment. And have a strong interest in finance which led me to studying commerce and education at Ballarat University.
I was elected to State Parliament as the Member for Williamstown in 1994, and elected Leader of the Victorian Parliamentary Labor Party on March 22, 1999. And resigned on the 27th of July 2007 for family reasons.
I am married to my loving wife Terry and have three wonderful children Nick, Amy and Will whom i treasure deeply.
