Canadian hurdy gurdy player, recorderist and singer, Tobie Miller grew up in Vancouver and Montreal, beginning her musical studies at the age of three (violin and later, piano), before deciding to concentrate on early and traditional music. After studies at McGill University (B. Mus, Honours Early Music, 2004) she moved to Switzerland to pursue advanced studies in medieval music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, with the support of a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Tobie currently divides her time between Basel and Montreal, performing with such groups as Ensemble La Rota, Castello Ensemble, La Bande Montréal Baroque, Skye Consort and the duo Chabenat/Bouffard. In addition to a busy performance career, Tobie teaches regularly at workshops and festivals including CAMMAC (since 2003), the Over the Water Hurdy Gurdy Festival (since 2005) and Les Journées de La Flûte à Bec (2006).
