About Me

from inside "Into the Wild":
FRIENDS, THIS LIFE IS WILD!
NATURALLY STRIVING TO TAME THE UNTAMABLE:
HOW CAN WE DELVE INTO THE WILD,
IF THE LIONS ARE NOT IN THEIR CAGES?
AFTER CAGING ALL THE BEASTS, WE FIND NEW ONES;
DRAGONS AND SNAKES, AND IN THE CLOSEST OF PLACES,
TEETH SHARPER STILL...
IS IT LESS WHIMSICAL TO HOLD TIGHT
TO WHAT IS ALWAYS CHANGING, DYING,
THAN TO COUNT THE WAVES IN THE OCEAN?
WOULD YOU RE-ORDER THE COLORS IN A RAINBOW?
BUT WHAT IF WE WERE REALLY INTO THE WILD,
LETTING LIFE BE?
PERHAPS WE'D BECOME OUR OWN BEST SNAKECHARMER,
ALREADY KNOWING THE SONG, SWEET AND STRONG!
PERHAPS THE LIONS WOULD BEGIN TO SMILE AT US!
Greg Glassman is one of New York City's hottest creative young jazz artists. Recently featured at Dave Douglas' Festival of New Trumpet Music at the Jazz Standard, Greg has chalked up over 1,000 performances on 4 continents; Not bad for a 30 year-old. He has shared the stage and studio with some of the world's great musical voices including, Clark Terry, Roswell Rudd, Marcus Belgrave, Sherman Irby, Sheila Jordan, Jane Monheit, Oliver Lake, Oscar Perez, Benny Wallace, Donald Walden, John Hicks, Wynton Marsalis, as well as The Skatalites, Bad Brains, The Strokes, and many more.
Into the Wild is the fruit of 3 years worth of weekly development with his working band, the Greg Glassman Quartet. Bandmembers, Quincy Davis, Danton Boller, and Dave Pier are among the most in-demand rhythm sectioners on the NY scene. The music is natural, intuitive, joyous, passionate, and relevant. Recorded without time limitation, the kinship of the band shines through. Joining the quartet are young saxophone sensation, Stacy Dillard, as well as Greg's close friends and mentors, Clark Terry and Marcus Belgrave. In this album, the listener is treated to a creative journey, truly unique in this era of jazz.
To check out Into the Wild is to instantly become a fan, not only of the music, but what Greg Glassman stands for as an artist and human: freedom, compassion, joy, truth.
