At the moment I am training hard for a 20mile road race on the 1st April then sometime after that I hope to do my first full marathon. I am presently working down the gym 4times a week. Twice helping my friend Grant, and twice taking Junior Gym training 12-18year olds.

I first became aware of them when the Tsunami hit, I wanted to give money but was unsure as to where it should go. After researching many various charities, I came across Action Aid they were a grass roots charity that employed 89% of their 1,787 staff from developing countries. I immedietly knew that this was the charity for me.
Eight hundred million people go to bed hungry every night, despite the fact that there is enough food in the world to feed everyone.
INDIAN LEATHER TRADE
The animals are subjected to cruelty that includes being crammed into lorries in such large numbers that many become severely injured when they are crushed or gouged by the horns of other animals. Many of them die en route. The evidence also reveals that most of the animals are dragged into abattoirs before they are cut open – often with dirty, blunt knives and in full view of one another – on floors that are covered with feces, blood, guts and urine. Some animals are even skinned and dismembered while they are still conscious.

The message and photos were sent by volunteers to draw up the mass-media attention on the atrocities occurring in Romania in the year 2007. No reaction from newspapers or TV stations yet, or the answer was: the subject is of little interest.The photos were taken in Bucharest's suburbs, at the location of capital's landfill in Glina. One of the photos shows a dog having the legs severed, Amstaff breed, and underneath, a few puppies in different stages of decomposition (the stumps nearby - the legs might have been severed while the dog was still alive, by the muddied ends, as if the dog was still able to use them; this would be a clear sign of cruelty) - all the corpses are found on the public domain - besides the question: who did that, there is also a matter concerning the public health - the dog corpses number grows with every weekAn investigation should be carried out, but the authorities are deaf to the citizens' complaints when it comes to cruelty on animals, and the media has no interest in reporting such things.

Puppy farms are places where dogs are bred purely for profit, with no regard for the welfare of the puppies or their mothers. The puppies can end up on sale through classified adverts or pet shops up and down the country, from department stores to the local high street pet shop.
Where does this happen?
This is now happening all over the world, Uk, Ireland, Wales, Usa etc.
Why are there so many now?
People love to have "so called" purebred dogs, even tho they have far more problems than your typical mongrel. And thats one that dont even come from puppy farms.
What can we do? Never buy cheap pedigree dogs, always rehome dogs from shelters, where you can. Only by not buying from these people any stopping the demand can we stop this vile trade!!!!

We rescue and rehome Oldies Club dogs via a network of foster homes.

BAN SNARING
Many people think that snares are already illegal. Unbelievably, some types of snares are still legal in the UK. The League campaigns for a total ban on the manufacture, sale and use of all snares.Snares are thin wire garrottes commonly used by gamekeepers to catch the foxes that are naturally drawn to the artificially elevated numbers of gamebirds in shooting woods. Snares are also set to catch rabbits.These crude devices can inflict terrible cruelty and suffering on any animals unlucky enough to be trapped in them. They are totally indiscriminate and often catch protected animals, such as badgers and otters, as well as domestic pets and livestock.

BEARS
Bear Baiting Bear baiting is possibly the world‘s most savage blood sport. Teeth and claws removed, bears are tied to a post and set-upon by pit bull terriers.WSPA‘s work has helped to reduce the number of bear baiting events held; opposition to the fights is increasing, but there is still much work to be done.
What is bear baiting?Usually held at local fairs in Pakistan, this cruel practice pits dogs against bears that have had their claws and teeth removed. The extraction of teeth and claws in itself is a cruel and agonising practice.Before the fight, the bears are tied to a post which renders them defenceless to the dogs‘ frenzied attack.
DANCING BEARS
Every year in India and Pakistan bear cubs - sloth bears, Asiatic black bears and Himalayan brown bears - are taken from the wild and sold to be trained as dancing bears.What does bear dancing involve?Illegal Capture Young cubs are stolen by poachers while their mother is away from the den or by killing her when she returns.This illegal killing and capture of bears is seriously threatening populations in the wild.Many cubs die from neglect or dehydration before they are sold for training.Constant suffering All dancing bears have a hole pierced through their lips, nose or palate and a chain or rope forced through.No anaesthetic is used for this highly painful operation and, to make matters worse, teeth are often removed or broken to prevent injury to the handlers.Tugging on the rope prevents these fresh wounds healing, and the bears find no relief from raw, painful infections.The agony goes on, and the bear learns to ‘dance‘ in an attempt to avoid the pain.Stress Poor diet has a disastrous effect on the health of dancing bears.Many suffer from cataracts and go blind due to lack of nutrition.The trauma of this unnatural life drives many bears mad and they display the repetitive, pacing movements, characteristic of mental damage.
BEAR BILE
There are about 7,000 bears on bear-bile farms in China. The captive animals are used to supply the voracious Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) market. Bear bile has been an ingredient in TCM for thousands of years, but intensive bear farming only came into existence in the 1980s when China's supply of wild bears began running low. The farms, however, have created a new set of problems.

DOLPHINS
Right now, Japanese fishermen are killing thousands of dolphins and porpoises as part of their annual hunt. Between October and April, more than 20,000 of these graceful creatures will be slaughtered. Speak out against this barbaric and unnecessary practice now!Why is this government-sanctioned event happening? Officials claim the slaughter is a form of "pest control" since the dolphins may compete with a fisherman's catch. But the butchered dolphins are actually being sold off to supermarkets and grocery stores!Dolphins are considered one of the most intelligent species on earth. Conservationists, scientists, and aquarium professionals agree that the method of these killings "inflict measurable pain and suffering on animals that are intelligent, sentient, and socially complex." TELL THE AMBASSADOR TO THE JAPANESE EMBASSY: STOP KILLING DOLPHINS TODAY!
SHARKS
In the last fifteen years demand for shark fin soup has boomed in Asia. Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan are the main shark fin trading centres. Asian consumers are unaware of the cruelty and unsustainability of the shark fin trade. Increasingly on the high seas sharks are “finned†and the rest of their bodies, often still alive, are dumped at sea. Shark meat is often too low-value compared to the target species (e.g. tuna) so 95-99% of the shark is discarded to conserve hold space. Shark fin provides gelatinous bulk in shark fin soup, but it has no taste – the soup has to be flavoured with chicken or other stock. While a fisherman in India will earn only $6 per pound of shark fin, a bowl of soup can cost $100 in a Hong Kong restaurant.

The European Parliament is about to adopt a new policy which, if unchanged, will cause millions of laboratory animals to suffer and die in cruel and out-dated toxicity experiments in which animals are deliberately poisoned to death. As it stands, millions of rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, dogs and other animals will be forced to inhale toxic chemicals or have them injected into their bloodstream, pumped into their stomach, spread on their skin or squirted into their eyes. The EU should rely on modern non-animal alternatives, which produce results which are biologically relevant, repeatable and, most importantly, humane. We need your help to convince parliament officials to take steps to reduce the number of animals killed in these unnecessary experiments and to create a strategy for replacing all animal tests.
