A Great Day In Harlem - Jazz Portrait - 1958 You're looking at the single most significant jazz portrait taken in the 20th century. Around ten one morning in the summer of 1958, 57 musicians representing three generations of jazz history showed up at 126th Street, between Fifth and Madison Avenues in Harlem to be photographed taken by Art Kane, a freelance photographer working for Esquire magazine. No one believed anyone could gather this many talents and temperments so very early on a summer morning but it all happened like magic, and the world was immediately smitten when this picture was published in Esquire magazine January 1959. This was Art Kane's first assignment as a professional photographer. http://www.artkane.comA Great Day In Hip Hop - 1998 Dec. God. People who defy the odds...achieve the unachievable. Those who do what I'd love to...those who do what I can't.Those who came before us who we tend to forget. Remember and be thankful, we are blessed.
