DJ PRYC£L£$$ BIOGRAPHY

The date: 2nd January 1999. The time: 09:52 hours. The place: A&M Electronics LTD, 4/5 Tottenham Court Road, London W1. A youthful DJ Pryceless had just finalised the purchase of 2 Technics 1200 turntables and a two-channel Vestax DJ mixer for a grand total of £760 cash, accumulated through months of hard graft. This was a day that would change his life forever.

DJ Pryceless had developed a deep passion for music as far back as he could remember. Much of his recreational secondary school time was spent at music stores acquiring the latest RnB / Hip-Hop singles, followed by a scamper home to indulge in hours of oblivious listening. Mr Pryce senior (also a DJ and known as Heineken), also held this deep passion and had amassed over 40,000 vinyl, and this ensured his junior would have a cultured musical upbringing. During the mid 90s, the latest genre of music to sweep through the UK, known as Jungle, was something DJ Pryceless had taken an immediate obsession to. This was down to its combination of unequivocal energy generated through its fanatical BPMs and lively Master of Ceremonies, along with its seamless integration and remix with other musical genres, notably Ragga.

Towards the end of the 1990s a new form of music was founded in London. Known as "Speed" Garage, it incorporated a mixture of bumpy 4by4 and 2-step beats, but not at the break-neck tempo found in Jungle as its title might suggest. Coupled with a variety of original vocal and instrumental flavours, a good-vibe feel and his first ventures into the world of nightclubs where the music was being pushed to the fore, DJ Pryceless was instantly hooked. Hours were spent locked onto pirate underground stations listening to the latest in UK Garage. One DJ in particular playing on Freek 101.8 FM, the now infamous DJ EZ, was someone he listened and gave particular admiration to. The way he used to mix and "cut" up two records effortlessly in a way which made the tunes in question almost appear as one was a skill DJ Pryceless was extremely fascinated by. "That sounds unbelievable! I wish I could do that!" he would utter to himself. Although he had become totally engrossed by the introduction of UK Garage, Pryceless was still very much into his RnB. However it was the mixing of the two genres together, which he first heard done by a DJ by the name of Fonti in another renowned collective known as the Heatless Crew, was the straw that literally broke the camels back. Aaliyah (RIP) was one of his favourite RnB singers and hearing her hit "Are you that Somebody?" being mixed with a Speed Garage favourite, Dem2's "Destiny" confirmed this was a skill and adventure he wanted to embark on.

Fast forward more than 8 years, hours of mixing and practice and you have a DJ with "flavas for a multitude of ravers." Much of his early years were spent acquiring the best in Underground Garage, but unrestricted in his musical knowledge and forte, he has expanded his repertoire to include music spanning numerous genres. These include Garage, RnB and Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Jungle, Raggae, Soca and 80s Swing. He has entertained on various renowned underground stations, hosting his own show on Y2K 90.6FM and Time FM 104.6FM and made various guest appearances on Freek FM 101.8 FM, amongst others. DJ Pryceless has also played a various nightclubs and bars up and down London, including Love Bar (Shoreditch), Time nightclub (High Wycombe), Dunes Bar (Kensington) and Elbow Rooms (Angel Islington) to name just a few.

His ability to entertain and his unappeasable drive for perfection suggest you'll be in for a fantastic time whenever he is in the vicinity; hence the DJ name Pryceless. Staying true to his surname but wanting a name unique to himself and his style of mixing, the name Pryceless was born. The ability to leave a crowd mystified. To think something unthought-of and carry this out spontaneously. To do something that is literally "Pryceless." With a collection of mix tapes and CDs, coupled with pictures taken from some of the events he has performed at, it would be difficult to suggest to the contrary. Long may the journey continue.
