About Me
Tohbias Juniel is a native of Denver, Colorado and is the percussion caption head, writer and arranger for the Chaparral High School Marching Band, High School 9, and the founder/director/arranger for Legend Independent Open percussion ensemble. Tohbias attended The Denver School of the Arts and upon graduation has studied music under IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators) director of education Greg Carroll at the University of Colorado at Boulder and under Ron Miles and Walter Barr at Metropolitan State College of Denver. He has worked as a staff member for the 4 time WGI (Winter Guard International) Independent World Class Champions, Blue Knights World Percussion Ensemble. As a high school student, Tohbias performed with The Colorado Symphony Orchestra and later performed with world renown jazz trumpeter, Ron Miles. As a studio artist, he has recorded albums with jazz pianist Geoff Cleveland, tenor saxophonist/vocalist Jason Justice, Denver based group O-Tone Brass Band, Bop Skizzum, while currently recording with Nashville singer/songwriter, Calvin Locklear.A lover of music Tohbias was a member of the Troopers Drum and Bugle corps, the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Blue Knights World Percussion Ensemble. A member of the Vic Firth Education Team, Tohbias also works as a clinician with Yamaha Marching Percussion. His travels are well versed, having toured with American Music Award nominated band Yo Flaco, while also performing at a multitude of venues across the world. Tohbias was one of twelve high school jazz students selected in America to perform at the 2nd Annual Vail Jazz festival and has performed at several festivals across the United States. As a teacher he has traveled with musical ensembles to London, Ireland, Great Britain, Hawaii, California, Florida and others leading young musicians to a multitude of performance titles and acquiring numerous personal awards and accolades along the way.
The Legend indoor percussion ensemble is a DCSD (Douglas County School District) sponsored organization. Allowing the opportunity to work closely with young people interested in pursuing music. The an audition process, the ensemble will be open to any percussionists aged 14 to 22 looking to seek higher levels of performance and education. We are a competitive unit associated with RMPA (Rocky Mountain Percussion Association). Being one of two independent indoor ensembles in a four state radius, our ensemble will impact many young musicians. Aside from competitions, the students talents will be on display performing for various functions and events throughout the state. The goal for the ensemble is to give young musicians life changing experiences providing experience through exposure.
