Born and raised in Colorado, Manuel grew up with a great passion for music. Having a natural taste for Latin music he began playing congas in his early teen years. Not too long after he picked up a pair of drum sticks and began playing the drums. Since then Manuel's ability to improvise and versatility on many percussion instruments has lead him to perform with countless musicians in almost every possible situation. Most notably being Jane Bunnett, Hugh Ragin, Justin Adams, Robert Johnson, Osmany Paredes, Babbi Mason, Greg Gisbert, Bijoux Barbosa, and many others. His ability to be so versatile on the drums as well as afro cuban percussion has placed him as one of the most in-demand percussionist/drummer in the region. Apart from performing Manuel is also an educator. His time spent teaching in high schools, middle schools, and giving clinics has given him a unique approach to percussion/drums. He is now teaching privately in Castle Rock, CO. Aside of the freelance work Manuel currently leads two bands: The Manuel Lopez Latin Jazz Project (a sextet focusing on afro-cuban rhythms) and Orquesta La Salsa ( a twelve piece salsa band)
