About Me

Moving to New York City in 1997, Gonzalo worked with Sheila Brody (P-Funk All Stars), with producer Louie "Balo" Guzman (Madonna, Jamiroquai), with Raquel Rivera's The Stamps, with producer Rob Grenoble (CEO Infidel Records. President Water Music Studios)Gonzalo also toured the U.S. extensively with "Proton Accelerator", opening for the Foo Fighters, Lit, the Toadies, Corey Glover and Diffuser. Between recording commitments, he found time to do drum clinics for industry leaders like Remo, Sabian and Vic Firth. He was a featured artist in Vic Firth's Latin American campaign in 2002 and is the first Venezuelan to release a signature model drumstick. He also signed an endorsement deal with Pearl Drums and Woodshed Percussion Pads.Aided by a laptop and the Internet, Gonzalo dispenses advice to aspiring drummers in a monthly column for Músico Pro magazine, the largest Spanish music magazine in the world. The accolades that follow his playing continue to pile up. E! Entertainment called him "a virtuoso". Modern Drummer cited his "fluid, independent style that stresses his Latin jazz feels…with plenty of chops!" Drum! Magazine said "Very few drummers have completely turned our heads around like Suarez did. The combined output of his arms and legs is almost impossible to track" Percussioni magazine in Italy said of Gonzalo: “there are at least two or three drummers in Latin America that everyone should know, Suarez is one of them”. The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada said: “Gonzalo Suárez is a musician of extraordinary ability, which has been demonstrated by sustained international acclaim” and El Nacional (Venezuelan largest newspaper) said “the story of this young Venezuelan is exceptional”. He’s also being the two-time recipient of the international award TOYP (Ten Outstanding Young People).Recently Gonzalo has been busy commuting between Caracas and New York City , doing as much as three albums at the same time. While in Caracas tours with pop band “Telegamma” and just finished recording on their second album, to keep diversity in his playing, he also recorded with “Gaelica” , a celtic, latin, world music band that is incredibly popular in Venezuela . While in New York City he records with Raquel Riviera and producer Ben Rice. You can see Gonzalo in the 2007 Sabian Cymbal Newsbeat catalog, distributed worldwide, and has also appeared as a featured artist in a national ad campaign for Piña Musical music stores ( Venezuela ’s largest chain of music stores).Gonzalo's playing schedule is now working in tandem with his role as head of Infidel Records Latin America. His mandate is to assemble an artist roster for deserving artists in Latin America .
