About Me

From an early age I've always have been involved with music. I studied two years of basic music theory at the age of seven at the Conservatorio de Musica, Maturin, Monagas. Initially, I was to learn piano but percussion and specially the drumset was my passion. After hearing Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin all I wanted to do was to bang the drums. During High School, I played in many bands, mainly self taughted. I was also involved in various projects during the University, most notably MANDIBULA, an alternative rock band that was second in Festival Alma Mater. My first drum class was with venezuelan drumming great, Pablo Bencid in Boston. Afterwards, I have been very lucky to have Miguel Hernandez and Gonzalo Suarez as drum teachers, inspiration and mentors. I have also received clases with Spain's great Jose Guerra in Madrid (the greatest jazz lessons ever!). I have also been very fortunate to receive lessons from Vera Figueiredo and Daniel Oliveira in Sao Paulo (they're like a force of nature! Guys you're the best!).Recently, I been with Billy Ward and Phil Maturano in NYC. I can't begin to describe what a wonderful experience that was! The're top notch professionals with a true love to the music!I've played with many great artists, such a Sigma, Rafael Paz (currently with RC-2), Livio Arias, Miguel Blanco, Rigel Michelena, among others. I have also been in the studio for artists such as Luis La Rosa (great project!). In this page you can hear one of my latest recordings with rock band ".3tik".I'm looking forward to become a session drummer for new and up-coming artists. Also, I have a day job and are a professor at a Venezuelan University.Currently, I've been subbing in the Marcos Carrasco Jazz Trio.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Following is a description of my equipment:DRUMS: I have two DW maple sets in standard sizes (10", 12", 14", 16" and 22") with a black to red lacquer finish. I also own a variety of snare drums, such as a 4x14 DW Maple, a 5x14 Ludwig Supraphonic and a 6x13 Mapex Maple (Great sounding drum!)CYMBALS: Where to start? My main set of cymbals is Zildjian (greatest company ever). My normal set is comprised of 14" A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hats, 16" K Constantinople Crash, 18" EFX A Custom Crash, 6" A Custom Splash, 22" K Dark Medium Ride (Great Cymbal!), 19" K Custom Hybrid Crash, 12" A Splash stacked with a 14" Oriental China and a 24" K Light Ride (Great Cymbal!).I've also have a selection of Zildjian Rides, such as a 20" A Custom Projection Ride (Great Bell for Rock), a 20" K Custom Ride (Great for Pop Recordings) and a 20" K Heavy Ride. I also have various effects cymbals, such as zil-bels, chinas and splashes. I also use a 13" A Customs Hi-Hat and a 13.25" K Custom Hybrid Hi-Hats.I also own a complete Sabian set that I'll use for certain projects. In this set the highlights are a 20" HH Manhattan Ride, the 14" HH Groove Hi-Hats and the 16" O-Zone Evolution.HEADS: For the toms, I am firm believer in the G2 Evans head for live, classic rock and jazz. I'll switch to EC2 for recording and certain live situations. The snare drum head will depend on the type of snare, the room and the situation. For the Bass drum, I'll use a EQ3.HARDWARE: I'll try to use all DW, including a 9000 and 5000 pedals.ELECTRONICS: I'll use a Roland TD-3 and a SPD-S Sampling Pad to trigger sounds live.
