nine lives and counting...

About Me

“It is a well-known fact that any one exposed to Hollywood longer than six weeks goes suddenly and incurably mad.” - Ellery Queen

I've been freaking out about aging since I was 23. I think I'm getting over that. A little. At least I still have hot gams and a bubble-butt; I insist.I think there is nothing that should not be said, but many many things that should not be done. Makes dinner parties and social democracies a big pain in the ass So I get pegged as an hysterically insatiable moralist, a nihilist-idealist, a lazy-ass, a cocooned pervert, a Hamlet on amphetamines, an onanistic neo-Freudian, etc. Okay, so no one has actually stopped me on the street and screamed, "I deny you, you onanistic neo-Freudian!" But shit, I know what they mean. That seems a little more concise than the last go-around. I think living in Hollywood is pole-axing most of my vocabulary away.

My Interests

cinema, dancing, deep disco house, gonzo ethnomusicology, 23, sushi, hysteria, magick + TM + ancient Californian wisdom, comic books, head, cats and the sacraments of Bast (dawn, civilization, home, bounty, plenty, enlightenment, art, music, dance, creation, birth, fertility, sex, physical pleasure, lesbians, truth, hemp, marijuana, drugs, the moon, and the rising sun), Lacanian heuristics/sadism, catamites, trannies and other pied pipers at the gates of gender binarism, bloated metaphors, glorious messes, lost causes, three-hankie weepies, over-writing, Variety-speak ("Sticks Nix Hick Pix", "Dakota Fanning starrer wows auds in nabes," etc.), road trips, slumber parties, conspiracy theories, thongs, dime novel wisdom, dime bags, the OED, Del Taco, Jack Chick tracts (learning to love Tony Alamo as well), the New York-L.A. rivalry, T'n'A, G'n'T, Illuminati-style true globalization and the crumbling of nation-states, immanentizing the eschaton.

I'd like to meet:

Women in love. Women in revolt. Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Music:

Eat, sleep, shit, techno.

Keywords: failed revolutions, utopias (race/class/gender), sociology, bass slapping, death of rock and roll, last night a DJ saved my life, hormones, beats international, situationism, skronk, scratch, glitch, jack, cash from chaos, never trust a hippy (unless they're German), that Bryan Ferry - he's so dreamy!, 24 hour party people, and so on.

I think my favorite radio single of all time is "Help Me" by Joni Mitchell. McKay and I listened to it on repeat for an hour and a half one morning. While not exactly Top 40 material, see also Leonard Cohen "Famous Blue Raincoat" and Scott Walker "Duchess"

Maybe my favorite video of all time:

I don't listen to the things I like ironically - that's a big waste of time, yeah? So when I say I love Dr. Hook, I mean it.

John Cage said that to really have any appreciation of music, you must first lose any idea of taste. I think I do quite well, under the circumstances.

Tee hee! I like everything except country and rap LOL heee! (Uh, wait, that's actually true if you mean young country and gangsta rap.) And as a corollary: no, I don't have to respect his rhymes... While I'm being a total cunt, I also despise emo, screamo, hardcore (punk, not techno), post-hardcore (Rites of Spring had their moments, but that's about all I can say), reggaeton, dancehall, and all of these quaint/precious/nasal acts like the Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, etc, who at the very least, comprise a genre by dint of annoying me in the very same way.

Not everyone understands house music. It's a spiritual thing.

Current heavy rotation: The Best of M_nus, Moodymann: Silent Introduction, Shriekback: The Y Records Years, Jackie Mittoo: "Reggae Magic," Boney M - "Rasputin," Karma - "High Priestess"
