I'm good.

About Me

I operate the Interlibrary Loan department at the new Central Library in downtown Des Moines, IA. I get paid to exchange books around the country and to think. I dreamt up and organized a deal between a local record store called Zzz Records and the library so that we can now order local music from them. I did this partly because they were in danger of being the next victim of gentrification and I wanted to help out. I selected the bands & DJ, booked them, did promotion and made up a title for a garage band show we held in the loading dock of our library. I also dyed my hair blue-green and hosted this show. It was a success. I was asked to serve on the Eighth Annual Iowa Author Awards committee and am currently organizing an independent front to represent at the fundraising dinner. They asked me to join because they said I "think outside the box." I don't believe in a box, only personal and social limitations that can largely be overcome. I think that change works from the inside out. This mirrors my own life. I've changed alot. I had a hard life growing up. A lot of people thought I was going to die when I was younger, including my parents, but I didn't. My friends and I have come along way and we're still going. A lot of people don't make it and I respect this. That's why I appreciate life. I use my experience to help create change in the world. I always try to make the strongest choice (the weak ones do me in), but I reserve the right to fuck around and fuck-up. I write and I like to write about death, but when I do it is with mastery and control, not submission. In the words of Nick 13, "I find that the fullest way to live life is to measure it against death. It's a good way to stay centered and make sure to take care of things that are most important." I study art therapy and believe in the healing power of artistic expression. I get along well with people with ADD. I love my friends and my family and I have a good time. I also sing, act, dance, create art and love life as much as possible. I try to encourage and inspire people to do the same. If you survive the world that overcomes you, then you will have the knowledge and power to change it.

My Interests

Solving problems: Thesis, antithesis, synthesis, using this to overcome adversity (my favorite pastime!), loving people, helping people, caring for people; things I’m wary of: people who aren’t about that, and I’m constantly on the lookout for them, freshly mowed lawns with stripes, strength, respect, independence, freedom (which basically means another person or entity isn't controlling you), a sense of humor, summer dreams, corporate takeover, fun, words, gathering information and sharing it, finding something special in an unexpected place, I'm serious about dental floss, energy, happy women, irony, science, fecal embryos, skissor wizard, scientific thinking, scientific knowledge, finding answers to the bad things to try and save the good things, double guns, fire, the number 9, magic, creativity, screaming butter, creative power, scary men, hard men, beautiful men, crazy men, sweet men, creative freedom, wild mind, experimentation, experiencing, experience, exploration, Capoeira, writing, singing, acting, pool(the game), swimming, adventuredancing!
