Destruments are Kelly Finnigan, Jesse Kramer and Sean Willson. Fortune and fate played equal parts in their formation. Kelly and Jesse met far from L.A. in the sylvan mountains of New England, doing hard time together at boarding school. Meanwhile three thousand miles west, Sean was honing his chops on his home turf…Van Nuys, California. After a brief stint in New York, Kelly returned to L.A., only to meet up with…Jesse yet again, fresh in from BeanTown. Hooking up with Willson, Destruments was born! All three have a mutual love of Hip-Hop, Jazz, Funk and Soul music, fusing yesterday’s bugaloo with tomorrow’s beats. Destruments are as much a production trio as they are a live band, digging the technology as much as the musical moment.
Their self titled debut LP “Destruments” and sophomore effort “Seeds of Soul” is a testament to their eclectic tastes and their chemistry, funky and innovative with a completely original style. In June 2007 Destruments (under their alias name Soul Robbers) and GMG Entertainment released a full length LP titled ESPRESSO: BISTRO BEATS which is exclusively sold and distributed by TARGET.
In late 2006 Destruments made the move up north to Oakland(Bump City) and Proudly joined eye 5 Recordings and start work with label mate’s prince ALI, j2, and CHIII. Soon after eye 5 Recordings & Hieroglyphics Imperium released prince ALI Presents “Corner Ensemble”, a mixtape/compilation showcasing eye 5’s artists and diverse sound. Prince ALI’S debut Record “CURB SIDE SERVICE” (eye5Recordings/Hieroglyphics Imperium) with Production from DESTRUMENTS as well as SKAVENGER, j2, & SMW is OUT NOW!!! This album feature's some of Hip Hop’s finest Spitters such as Keith Murray, Planet Asia, Rakaa Iriscience, j2, Casual, Pep Love, Tajai, and APlus of Hieroglyphics.
Besides being busy in the studio Destruments have been performing live all over California this past year, sharing the stage and bill with such artist’s as Planet Asia, Hieroglyphics, Dilated Peoples, Talib Kweli, Dwayne Wiggins, Kool Kieth, Defari, Blackalicious, Camp Lo, DJ Hi Tek, Kevvy Kev, Goapale, prince ALI, LOWD, Civil Savages, Jern Eye, Ammbush, and 2Mex. On February 23rd 2007 eye 5 hosted its official record label launch show which featured the label's artists plus some of Cali’s finest Hip Hop artist’s mentioned above. Plans for a Spring 2008 tour with prince ALI and Hieroglyphics are in motion.
Starting 2007 on the good foot, Destruments continues to spread the word with eye 5 Recordings, recently starting eye 5 TV with Jog9 Productions/Audio Bee/DashGo, Signing to Japenese Label MicLife for an exclusive Project released in Japan, Collabing with the Hip Hop group Radix for an LP, plus hooking up with Scifen Clothing for a sponsorship. With all that going down, you never know what Destruments next move will be in 2008... So keep your eye’s and ears open for any Destruments future projects including beats for multiple MC's, a C.L. Smooth Remix for Presto's New LP(ConcreteGrooves2008), Skavenger/IDE collabo LP, a j2 LP, a prince ALI/j2 LP produced by Destruments, a Roy Butterfields Project Album & Brother Wizard record...plus Ashram, SyncroniCITY, Remixes for Hieroglyphics and other eye5 and Destruments releases.
