Along with husband Peter and Dorothy Maclean, Eileen is a co-founder of the Findhorn Foundation and Community in Northern Scotland.
Eileen was born in 1917 to an Irish father and English mother. She lived an ordinary life until the turning point came when she was 36 years old. While meditating in a small sanctuary in the English town of Glastonbury, she heard a voice inside her saying ‘Be still and I know that I am God’. She thought she was going crazy, but the voice continued, and stayed with her - she learned to trust and love it. It guided her life from that moment, through changes she could never have imagined. She called this voice ‘the still small voice within’ or ‘the God within’. But she felt that she was nobody special; she believed that everyone can hear this voice inside, because God is inside everyone, no matter who you are. Her life’s work was to follow this voice, and to turn others within to hear their own inner voice.
In 1962, with her husband Peter and friend Dorothy Maclean, she began the Findhorn Community in north-east Scotland. They didn’t know they were starting a community at first, they were just trying to lead a God-centred life. But a community grew around them, and then became famous, partly because of the books that were published, containing the guidance she received from her inner voice, and partly because of the amazing gardens they grew in semi-barren soil, guided by the inner spirits of nature, with which Dorothy found she was able to communicate.

Here are two pieces of guidance she received from the God within:
DO MY WILL
Let your greatest and only desire be to do My will. Nothing else matters. When it takes time to find out what My will is, take time. You will always be able to find it out when you still your heart and mind, and wait upon Me. The magic words which open the door are "Be Still" - such simple words but so few know the meaning and true magic of them. Claim these words as your own and, here and now, learn the meaning of them. Then start putting them into practice in your life and see what happens.
Take time to go deep within and listen to My still small voice. There is a straight clear path before you - but you have to take time to find it. You have to take time to be still, to raise your consciousness, to become consciously aware of Me and of My divine Presence and, in the peace and stillness which is yours when you allow yourself to seek and find that state, much will be revealed to you.
THE ANSWER IS WITHIN YOU
The answer to every question, every decision, every problem is within you. You have been told this many times and yet you still go around trying to find the answers without, asking advice and guidance from first one person then another, acting on the advice of one and then another. When things don't work out you blame someone else for giving you the wrong advice.
You and you alone hold the answer within you, but unless you are willing to take that time to be alone with Me and seek the answer you will not find it. Cease relying on outer props and start to stand on your own feet, doing your own thinking, and knowing without a shadow of doubt that I AM within you.

EILEEN DIED PEACEFULLY ON DECEMBER 13 2006. THE FINDHORN COMMUNITY CONTINUALLY CELEBRATES HER SPIRIT WHICH WE KNOW IS ALWAYS WITH US, AND THE LEGACY OF INSPIRATION SHE LEAVES BEHIND.
