About Me

Bernd Eilts, born in Aurich (this part is called:Ostfriesland),northwest-Germany, has been working as an autonomous artist since 1990. Before that he was active as a musician in electronic and experimental music, as well as in pop and rock music. His expressive art include drawings, water-colours, and small objects. Eilts also worked as a freelance author for several German newspapers and illustrated magazines. His primary subjects have been exhibitions at the Emden Kunsthalle (founded by Henri Nannen) and the Groningen museum. From 1990 Eilts worked in his own work shop no. 9 in Dornum, North-West-Germany. Here he worked on expressive-abstract paintings, lithography, mixed-media-performances, and photography. His art was displayed widely in East-Friesland, as well as in the cities of Berlin, Hannover, Bremen, Oberhausen and the dutch town Groningen. From 1996 till 1999 Eilts studied at the dutch Art Academy Minerva in Groningen. Here he and the Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata worked together on the “Out of site, at the site” project, a project for "Minerva 2 00". At Minerva 2 00 he worked on a project of his own: the “Library Minerva 2 00”, an social sculpture. In this period Eilts concentrated more and more on performance art and audio-visual art forms. He focused on images from nature and ever-repeating human actions, for example the tying of shoelaces. His bachelor project was the performance “Dayvolution”, which was shown at the Groningen festival for new media “Cyberslag 2”, as well as at the Grand Theatre and at the Noorderzon festival. In his performance, Eilts blended quadraphonic soundscapes, modern ballet, video projections, and light design into a completely new art of performance. The meaning of small, everyday revolutions was on the one hand connected to experiences of human evolution, and to the daily, routine experiences of society on the other hand.In 1992 Eilts started working with cow manure, holy cow manure from all these holy cows. His initial objects led to the invention of his cow manure clock. Together with fellow artist Jens Pauw, he developed the cow manure watch. Pauw and Eilts also formed “B-flat”. The designs of both cow manure clocks are protected by copyright laws. In summer 2001 he was Location Manager and PR assistent at Peter Greenaway's project "The Grand Terp", located in the north of the dutch town Groningen. In 2001 and 2002 Eilts taught video art at the Aurich Miraculum and Papenburg Zinnober art centres in Northern Germany. Since 2002 he has been cooperating with American choreographer and dancer Sara Wiktorowicz (former Galili Dance Company, Jan Fabre). Their dance-movie project “Breath” was shown in Groningen in 2002 and at the Amsterdam international dance-movie festival “Cinedans” in 2003. It was included in the international Cinedans video collection and in the library of the Amsterdam Art Academy.Other video-dance projects, like with Compagnie "Cie Elle P Dance" were shown at modern ballet festivals in Groningen, München, Dortmund, Luzern, Lausanne, Milano and Firenze. Bernd Eilts works and lives in Groningen and on the road. All copyrights for images and film by: Bernd Eilts / VG BILD-KUNSTAm on holiday right now, with different mud under my shoes day by day, different smells all the time not only ON my clothes and different colors, not only in my head... ..
