Influences: Scratchy recordings of old Delta Blues music like Son House or Mississippi John Hurt, anything by Wagner, some Americana like Steve Earle or Son Volt, outlaw country like Willie or Waylon or Kris, some classic rock albums like Derek and the Dominoes Layla, jazz like Louis Armstrong and Dave Brubeck, African music like King Sunny Ade, old alt-rock like old R.E.M., Scottish or Irish folk music like the Battlefield Band or Altan, some other favorites are Daniel Lanois, Bob Marley, J.J. Cale, and Van Morrison.
Sounds Like: Driving between Athens and Macon, Ga in the summertime; dusk over the coastal marsh; hot coffee on the front porch, early morning on the first frosty day of autumn; improvised songs in a dusty yard in Negril; sometimes turquoise water in the Gulf of Mexico, sometimes red clay.
