MALAIKA means, PRONOUNCED MA-LAH-KA) is an Actress/Writer/Producer. With a background in Theater since the age of seven. Malaika was influenced with the acting bug by her mother and third grade teacher , Sandra Walton. For me, acting and writing comes from the heart and soul. A lot of her work is fill with drama, intenseness, and passion. I feel like life itself is enough drama but that doesn't mean you should have drama with everyone you come across. I like to put to it down on paper ,perform a piece and make it shine .In any situation something good can come out of it.Malaika, was born in California but grew up in St. Louis, MO and has currently been living in Atlanta, GA for the past eight years. Which,she feels Atlanta has so many opportunities on all levels.She is the youngest of six. Malaika looks up to her brothers Comedians/Actors,Joe and Guy Torry and eldest brother Ramon Torry who is a Writer/Artist."We are strong family who are very independent of each other but share the some of the same dreams. My two oldest sisters have made their mark in life as well."Strictly Dramatic Productions, LLC was founded in 2003 by Malaika Torry, which she runs as a CEO/Writer/Actress/Producer.Expressing yourself is important and letting yourself shine in a positive light is even better."I believe if you have the opportunity to have the floor and be heard,by all means make sense." Malaika has dabbled in comedy in the mid 90's and had a very good start.Her brother Guy Torry gave her first break in comedy at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles,CA."It was a great experience and I made people laugh & that was cool,but acting is my first love!" She has worked on films such as, Motives 1 & Motives 2,Drumline,Fighting Temptaions,and Passing Glory. Malaika, graduated from Visual Performing Arts High following her brother Guy."We were so excited about going to that school,thinking it was going to be like the movie Fame",she laughs. Though, she feels it was great honor to attend and graduate.
Afterwards,she continued education on to Philander Smith College in Little Rock, AR. There she studied English /Communication and Theater led by Angela Griffith."I learned a lot from Ms. Griffith she really believed in me." Although, comedy is not her passion she really loves it.You can now catch Malaik Torry at her new professional acting studio,"Strictly Dramatic Studios" where she will host open mic with a featured guest performing Dramatic Monologues,Spoken Word, Music, Poetry,Improv and Comedy. Also, Malaika is a part of a writing trio writing inspirational books, Sistah.Mama.Sista, which includes herself, mother(Rebecca Torry,and sister Christina Govan.) A play,independent film,a tour and a documentary in the works as well.Malaika loves helping people,she's creative,and believes everyone deserves a chance."I love people, style, good entertainment,and giving back.
