In the quiet suburbs of Fairfax, Virgina, founders Amir Fallah and Jay Littleton began Beautiful/Decay in 1996 as a small black & white "zine" while still in high school. Taking the name from a quote by artist Barry Mcgee (Twist) in graffiti zine 12oz. Prophet, “Beautiful/Decay†described everything Amir loved about emerging art and underground culture. Since then, Amir and his partners, Ben Osher and Fubz, have taken the publication from a black & white “zine†with a 3,000 copy circulation to a full color publication with an international distribution of more than 45,000 copies. The bi-coastal publication has branched out to create Beautiful/Decay branded books, curate art shows, develop event sponsorship programs, as well as launch a highly sought after artist’s series apparel line and various limited edition products.
