Marcia Maria

Was born in Rio de Janeiro and starts her professional career in Brazil. Five albums under name, always loved by the critics, participations to over fifteen recordings, hundreds of shows on all major Brazilian and European stages, the greatest festivals, encounters with the greatest musicians in the world... As many moments that have made of Marcia one of the most experienced singers of the time. Her first LP "TAPECAR" label, which was released in 1977, is already bang on the target: she gets the prominent "Diaries Associates Trophy", and the jury pronounces MARCIA MARIA one of the five major female singers of Brazil.In 1982, she signs a record deal with the Brazilian division of "CAPITOL RECORDS" and her new LP "Tambourine" easily finds it's way to the charts. It this closure of Capitol Records Brazil that makes MARCIA MARIA decided to pack her bags and leave for Paris. She needs some time to get her name in the picture but after performances in almost all of the clubs in Paris and provinces things started working out for MARCIA MARIA again. In chronological order we can mention the Memorial Django Reinhardt in Samois, Ozone Jazz Festival in Neufchatel, the Memphis Melody in Paris (Memphis Slim’s club) en eventually the Carré Silvia Montfort. Year after year MARCIA’s popularity grows: she does seven shows in a row in the New Morning in Paris and she performs ant important festivals like “Jazz des Frontières aux Frontières du Jazz in Angers”, “Jazz sous les Pommiers” in Coutances in the “Festival de Trois Continents” in Rennes. With an extensive tour in the South of France MARCIA MARIA acquires an enviable spot in the jazz circuit (Nice, Aix-en Provence, Marseille, Toulon, Vitrolles, Salon de Provence, NÎmes...) as well as in the world of variety (on occasion of Midem in Cannes) she sings live for France Music in the Casino Club. Claude Carrière and France Music Radio trust MARCIA MARIA with the presentation of the Brazil 86 broadcasts. This is the right time for MARCIA MARIA to release her first European LP, "Colo de Rio", on the powerful Carrère label MONDE DE LA MUSIQUE bombards the LP to "Choc du Mois" and JAZZ HOT considers it the best Brazilian album of the year. This is the final break-through to the top and the major European festivals (Umbria, Palermo, Nyon, and Brussels…) MARCIA also triumphs at V1VA BRAZIL 89 Festival when she overwhelms the audience (12 000 people) on the fully packed Grand Place in Brussels. MARCIA MARIA has now firmly established herself and if is her full agenda that keeps her new recordings until 1994, when she releases the impressive Cd "Passion" on the Sowarex label. This Cd features the best Belgian’s musicians around Bruno Castelucci, Eric Legnini, Philip Catherine, the eminent Brazilian guitar player Toninho Horta, just to name a few.MARCIA MARIA is now celebrating 37 years of musical carrier with the same energy and talent as when she began. Née à Rio de Janeiro , je suis "Carioca". Resident en France depuis 16 ans. Professeur de musique et chant avec improvisation,bossa nova auquel je suis tombait dedans depuis mon jeune âge. J'adore la bonne musique n'importe son orgine. J'ai eu l'honneur de travailleur avec des grands musiciens brésiliens ainsi que des musiciens de jazz européens. Et ce ne pas fini! Je croisé les oceans pour ammener ma musique en peu part tout dans le monde. Avec la samba-funk "Amigo Branco" et "Tambourine",j'étais dans les meilleures places des hits parade dans tout le Brésil en 79 . Mais aussi très critiquée par la presse conservatrice de l'époque,que ne comprennait pas cette fusion délirante. Le resultat de cette aventure est que en fait, j'étais une des prémières chanteuses a enregistrer la samba-funk. Mais le public m'avais compris. Je suis heureuse dans ma vie d'artiste par la quantité d'amis que me soutiennent et la reconnaissance du large public ainsi que le respect des musiciens.
