Thanks for taking time to check out the buff!

About Me

Buff's been bass'ted since 1968. Aquired some additional musical skills along the way, mostly guitar, but hanging so closely with drummers, I couldn't help but get some of that in me or on me as the case may be. I also play piano and keyboards. You really want to hear piano, listen to Hiromi, she is absolutely incredible. I recently picked up Scheila Gonzales as a MySpace friend. Check her out as she (for me anyway) is one of those who defines the word 'musician'. I've been very into recording other artists lately. Have been taking Classical/Flamenco guitar lessons for about two years from Eric Tatum, but it's a long way to John Williamsville. Learning several Bach tunes and working on reading and technique. Recently purchased an upright bass that I've been using with 'Luxury Quartet', wish I'd have bought it long ago. When I met up with Marienne, her music screamed for fretless bass, so I commissioned another to replace my 'Billy Richardson fretless', I've since had that bass fretted and it rocks. The new frettless was made by my dear friend Paul Gambon and it sounds terrific. You can hear it on 'Thumb Drum'.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: jeffstocki.com
Band Members: ...don't need no stinking members, I stink all by myself! (as shown in these five samples) However, I am currently playing upright bass with 'The Luxury Quartet', fretless bass with 'Marienne Kreitlow' and 'Innerstate' and also have been filling in with 'Tailspin' also on the fretless. Whenever possible, I like to get out to San Diego and perform with my pal Stan, a wonderfully creative artist.
Influences: Jaco, Jack Bruce, Fripp, Jimi, Ritchie, Stanley, Mick Ronson, my brother Dave, Stan Kenton, Miles Davis, the mastery of Jeff Beck, Peter Hammill, Area, Steve Hillage/G.O.N.G. & Co., my son Eric, who's my inspiration. I love Indian and Eastern music, ...Shakti! Hawkwind, and does anyone remember, Ground Hogs? Don Ellis, Kate Bush, Dick Meyers...who taught me to tell the story of who I am through my playing. 'Mr. Bungle' were amazing, I really took to Eberhard Weber and a lot of the ECM artists. David Torn is very cool. Pete Townsend, ...genius.
Sounds Like: A herd of Buffy'loes.
